And that’s not what the gods or airplanes intended.

But now, I’m reading up and dusting off my postnationalist identity. Because we’re about to reach a breaking point in our global movement to save Black lives. And these national identities are standing in our way.

First, let’s cover a few basic observations. Black people are being killed and denied justice everywhere. In every part of the world, from the Americas to Europe and Asia, and all the way back to Africa, we’re being killed at disproportionate and undeniable rates – just for being Black. It’s what they call a global pandemic....

Sun, 28 Jun 2020 14:40:00 +0000 PeraclesPlease comment 284166 at http://dagblog.com There are enough stories of http://dagblog.com/comment/284162#comment-284162
In reply to A bit misleading. It's a link to a Black expat page with diverse stories of people largely like me who went to live abroad for various reasons, but aggregating Black voices and perspectives and details that are sometimes/often left out of the expat story. So you have people with adverse relations to the US, people who just wanted to travel, some doing school, some who got dragged along by a mate, some who are doing some cultural/ancestral exploration, some who went for a short stint that turned into years, possibly including multiple countries, some taking advantage of professional opportunities and interesting/adventurous life abroad, some related to kids and parents, etc, etc. Not so oddly, Black people turn out to be pretty normal people for 2020, frequently similar to many expats of many cultures - sometimes quasi-stateless, culturally neutral or adaptable, a bit interchangeable with other expats - though of course those who travel abroad likely have a bit better means and qualifications (or a job/scholarship lined up) than many Blacks at home to enable the journey, similar to other groups. And probably are more liberal and worldly, as frequently is the case with expats. Ties with home, and number of returns/year or years between returns of course vary.

Sun, 28 Jun 2020 13:46:00 +0000 PeraclesPlease comment 284159 at http://dagblog.com Sorry, http://dagblog.com/comment/284140#comment-284140
In reply to Is an exact dupe of what I

Sorry,

Link to a Black expat site with perspectives of others tired of the United States.

https://www.facebook.com/theblackexpat/

Sun, 28 Jun 2020 03:42:42 +0000 rmrd0000 comment 284140 at http://dagblog.com Is an exact dupe of what I http://dagblog.com/comment/284137#comment-284137
In reply to 'I'm leaving and I'm just not

Is an exact dupe of what I posted in the comment above!

Sun, 28 Jun 2020 03:16:50 +0000 artappraiser comment 284137 at http://dagblog.com 'I'm leaving and I'm just not http://dagblog.com/comment/284134#comment-284134
In reply to Ghana Minister Invites African-Americans to Re-settle in Africa If They Feel Unwanted in the U.S.

'I'm leaving and I'm just not coming back': Fed up with racism, Black Americans head overseas

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2020/06/26/blaxit-black-americans-leave-us-escape-racism-build-lives-abroad/3234129001/

Sun, 28 Jun 2020 03:09:43 +0000 rmrd0000 comment 284134 at http://dagblog.com That's the Kansas City method http://dagblog.com/comment/284116#comment-284116
In reply to 'I'm leaving and I'm just not

That's the Kansas City method Gladwell writes about.
