You've got a lefty City Commissioner who also participates in protests throwing missive at the mayor every day mostly about the brutality of PD, a mayor who has to govern more centrist as he is mayor of all the people. And has to be concerned with those who don't like vandalism from protests and night action going on for 50 days as well as those protesting themselves.

I think it's interesting how little Commissioner Hardesty seems to be concerned about the goons, her focus is on the PD Then. I noted this

BUT then I thought: but I also express doubt about her concern! Isn't she better off having the goons there as proof how crooked and corrupt the whole shebang is?

I suspect the mayor and the cops here would actually like some federal help, just not the stoopid illegal kind that were sent. Especially as right within the governing coalition there is discord about how cops are handling it.

What I am saying is: if they hadn't sent the goons, the mayor might be asking for National Guard or some such. Precisely because most of the protesting is about the police now.

There's the argument by rmrd, for example, that the local authorities should take care of this. THAT POINT IS A NON-SEQUITER in this case. No they can't, because they are the object of the discord. In that way, it is just like sending Federal troops down south to help integrate the schools because the local police will not enforce the law!

The whole situation makes local government and policing ineffectual. And that CATCH 22 IS WHERE A TROLL LIKE TRUMP AND MINIONS ARE GOING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE politically.

Taylor was shot eight times by police. According to a lawsuit filed by her family, her killing was the result of a botched drug-warrant execution. No drugs were found; the warrant in question targeted another person, who lived miles away and had already been detained by the time police entered Taylor’s home.

Who are they going to arrest for Breonna Taylor, and how? Which officer committed a crime outside of their no-knock search warrant, And how would a DA make that charge stick? Legal systems are not just random sets of TV-like busts. What happened in the trial of the cop who killed Mike Brown? What happened with George Zimmerman? Making show arrests to then see people acquitted doesnt inspire anyone. Fixing flaws in the surveillance and arrest protocols may. Too much symbolic bullshit that changes nothing.

Portland Police declared a riot as people broke into the Portland Police Association headquarters in North Portland and set it ablaze. The fire was later put out as protesters were told to move east. Another protest took place at the Justice Center in downtown, where, according to multiple reports, tear gas was used to disperse the crowd of protesters.
