And has to be concerned with those who don't like vandalism from protests and night action going on for 50 days as well as those protesting themselves.

I think it's interesting how little Commissioner Hardesty seems to be concerned about the goons, her focus is on the PD Then. I noted this

In a piece published Saturday, Portland’s major daily newspaper, The Oregonian, expressed doubt about whether Wheeler’s opposition to the presence of federal officers in the city was genuine.

Per that story:....

BUT then I thought: but I also express doubt about her concern! Isn't she better off having the goons there as proof how crooked and corrupt the whole shebang is?

I suspect the mayor and the cops here would actually like some federal help, just not the stoopid illegal kind that were sent. Especially as right within the governing coalition there is discord about how cops are handling it.

What I am saying is: if they hadn't sent the goons, the mayor might be asking for National Guard or some such. Precisely because most of the protesting is about the police now.

There's the argument by rmrd, for example, that the local authorities should take care of this. THAT POINT IS A NON-SEQUITER in this case. No they can't, because they are the object of the discord. In that way, it is just like sending Federal troops down south to help integrate the schools because the local police will not enforce the law!

The whole situation makes local government and policing ineffectual. And that CATCH 22 IS WHERE A TROLL LIKE TRUMP AND MINIONS ARE GOING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE politically.

Mon, 20 Jul 2020 22:37:07 +0000 artappraiser comment 285599 at http://dagblog.com Interview with the man-of http://dagblog.com/comment/285561#comment-285561
In reply to Federal Law Enforcement Use Unmarked Vehicles To Grab Protesters Off Portland Streets

Interview with the man-of-steel guy in the Navy sweatshirt made famous by the viral video, Portland Tribune:

The Navy Veteran said this was his first protest, and he attended because he was concerned about reports of protestors being arrested without due process.

"I felt these gentlemen were violating their oath of office, and I wanted to talk to them." https://t.co/r1vqOy4Ehd https://t.co/GjTw63jhLc
— Don Moynihan (@donmoyn) July 19, 2020

Mon, 20 Jul 2020 01:34:25 +0000 artappraiser comment 285561 at http://dagblog.com The action report filed by http://dagblog.com/comment/285516#comment-285516
In reply to Who are they going to arrest

The action report filed by the officers was a blank page.

Edit to add:

Taylor was shot eight times by police. What happened in the trial of the cop who killed Mike Brown? What happened with George Zimmerman? Making show arrests to then see people acquitted doesnt inspire anyone. Because the cops let go.
