Well, he is a bullshitter who turned the skill into a revenue stream. Being able to deliver proposals that tell the listener what they want to hear is a kind of knack that requires paying attention to how the mark is reacting to the pitch.

Methinks you pegged it. If you look at old videos of him from like the 80's, it's so clear, he was a very snappy salesman back then. It's a quibble on whether it's dementia or everything is just over his head and overwhelming. There's seems to be a movement in that direction. It's well in evidence here. But it's far from universal yet. The debates on religion with Harris, Hitchens, Dawkins, and Dannett are very interesting, rational and very much in line with the Buckley vs etc debates. There are still those doing rational discussions of differing opinions whether friendly or adversarial and those who appreciate them

Beyond the dementia issue, it really struck me as post modernism writ large, that there is no reality, only individual interpretations of it in each and every brain.

In that context, you don't need a census, people will just argue about what it means and how it should be interpreted. In a democracy, you just go with majority belief, in a dictatorship, you go by what the bossman believes.

Critical theory is no different in this vein, it's very post modern in that it challenges power "structures" of society that influence individual thought, hence the extremist practitioners of include attacks on math and science. They really are doing nothing different from what Trump does. They only confusing thing about what he does is that it's not formed by an ideology but based on narcisssism of "stable genius."
