Just struck me now reading your comment that it probably is good if all of us news junkies keep in mind that the state of the news business is this: fewer and fewer in the news biz are getting decent pay and there are fewer of them all the time. We used to be able to infer ideology or groupthink or spin or even things like conspiracy into things like editing. It's increasingly more likely though, that when we see something odd, it's just incompetence of inexperienced cheap newbie or overwhelmed to the point of not giving a shit anymore. They are on a 24/7 hamster wheel and just gotta get the current piece done and up on the net and move on to the next one. Can't infer what we used to....

Note Clay succeeded his father, putting the 2 of them in the House 52 years. Meanwhile, St Louis lost a Rep in 2010, And McCaskill wasn't happy how Clay handled splitting the remaining 2 districts (putting all St Louis city under him, Country remains White presumably). I'm sure Ferguson brought a new dynamic, as did this year, And I imagine this was a rejection of the old stodgy family-run business as it was a vote for radical left in times of crisis.
