This is all fiddling while Rome burns. We are in a totally different world than 2019.

There will be NO new social services in big cities. They will be lucky if they have services at all, as there will be few left to pay for them. At minimum, St. Louis and Milwaukee everywhere.

Wed, 12 Aug 2020 23:11:50 +0000 artappraiser comment 286919 at http://dagblog.com Edit to add: http://dagblog.com/comment/286916#comment-286916
In reply to The goals the protests is to

Edit to add:

In the nationally publicized homicides, the elements appeared to be a community that didn't trust, the police, local activists who mobilized the community because they didn't trust the police, and local politicians who didn't trust the police.

Here we have a politician telling us what has been done to prevent a future similar occurrence.

Wed, 12 Aug 2020 22:36:44 +0000 rmrd0000 comment 286916 at http://dagblog.com The goals the protests is to http://dagblog.com/comment/286912#comment-286912
In reply to *Protests*. *National*

The goal of the protests is to change policies. Of course! But not exclusively. One problem (racism) is not the same as the other (police and authoritarian abuse.)

It got all mashed together in worldwide mass hysteria. Hysteria in solidarity against and fear of bullying. While perhaps the biggest pandemic of all times is going on causing tremendous contraction of the global economy and only the very wealthy are safe from the ramifications.

It's been known to happen, i.e., sackcloth and ashes religious movements targeting sin during The Plague. A perfect storm. Not a logical way to proceed to solve crises. Supposed to be "all hands on deck". Trump/Russia divisiveness wins again. Two months wasted protesting on the streets, what exactly? Lives matter. No kidding. As we have a bigger discussion around reforms to police training, funding and procedures, there must be a deep look at how we treat emotionally disturbed people. As we hopefully divert $1 billion from the NYPD’s existing budget into social services, that must include supporting trained mental health professionals who can be our first line of response alongside EMTs. We owe that to our fellow New Yorkers who have been left behind for too long.”

New York City Council voted on Tuesday to divert $1 billion from NYPD’s budget into social services.

State Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (republican candidate for U.S. Congress) didn’t issue a statement on George Zapantis’ tragic death in the hands of the Police. Malliotakis who takes pride as a strong “law and order conservative”) also didn’t march with Archbishop Elpidophoros in Brooklyn, at a BLM rally. On Tuesday, she called the NYC Council “idiotic” for voting to divert 1 billion from NYPD to social services, claiming falsely that the “cut is enough to completely eliminate the NYPD’s anti-terrorism efforts until the year 2026.”

https://www.greeknewsonline.com/gianaris-and-constantinidis-condemn-the-death-of-george-zapantis/

Wed, 12 Aug 2020 21:08:07 +0000 rmrd0000 comment 286905 at http://dagblog.com Do Greek lives matter? As noted elsewhere, cops kill a lot of white suspects and innocents too - more by numbers than blacks even though less by percent. But this sadistic killing will also go unpunished, and no organization will lead protests for a "privileged" white man, no national dialogue will take place over mental illness and abuse of the disabled.

Wed, 12 Aug 2020 20:27:00 +0000 PeraclesPlease comment 286898 at http://dagblog.com
