President Donald Trump unveiled a plan aimed at winning over Black Americans on Friday, less than two months before Election Day, largely expanding upon the existing economic-related initiatives the President established in his first term.

The proposals include prosecuting the Ku Klux Klan and Antifa as terrorist organizations, making Juneteenth a federal holiday and efforts to bolster Black economic prosperity.

During an Atlanta event announcing what was deemed the Black Economic Empowerment "Platinum Plan," Trump sought to draw contrasts between his plan for the African American community and Joe Biden's proposals, arguing that the former vice president "inflicted" damage on the Black community over the last 47 years he's spent working in Washington [....]

Trump just gave a speech in Atlanta in which this small segment on BLM was obviously well written to appeal to some of the demographics mentioned above, to have him win a few more black votes here and there.It starts out mentioning Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and Ahmed Aubery extremely sympathetically

and then he segues a strong attack with the law and order mismanagement meme on the big blue cities which I think appeals to much larger and varied demographics:

I am thinking that Charles Barkley on Shaq statement yesterday might have helped inspire the speechwriter because it certainly went viral.

And while Trump's delivery may still sound very insincere to us cynic types, I also notice that during the statement on Taylor, Floyd and Arbery he slows down and very very carefully executes the wording, he clearly practiced it, it is not he tones down his usual sing songy delivery from a teleprompter.

Some fascinating stuff contra "conventional wisdom" from these ongoing studies they looked at. Like this for one example:

In an interview, Terrance Woodbury of HIT described younger Black voters as having “systemic cynicism” towards institutions like the Democratic Party.

“There is a level of disenfranchisement and disengagement,” he added. Woodbury also argued that some of Trump’s messages have resonated with younger Black voters in particular. In focus groups, according to Woodbury, younger Black voters often mention the criminal justice reform bill that the president signed into law, his support for increased funding for historically Black colleges and the low Black unemployment rate before the coronavirus outbreak.

These differing views among Black Americans may not just be about age. When looking at all Black respondents (not just likely voters), Biden had more support among Black voters who were college-educated and those with higher-incomes, according to the Nationscape data. So it might be that more established Black people (older, more educated, higher income) are more satisfied with the Democratic Party than other Black Americans.
