Yours is a fair observation of why Obama selected him. But it didn't work out. Garland wasn't even allowed to come up for a vote.

Several years later, Biden puts him forward for AG when the snowball chance in hell problem has been solved by the change in Congress. The choice Biden would have been willing to make to get somebody approved without that advantage was probably a lot more of a compromise than this selection.

There are other ways to approach the decisions than such pragmatic considerations. Framing it as simply giving Republicans what they want is odd. Why not just become a Republican?

It's true imo that Obama bent over backwards to try to compromise with republicans and got snubbed every time. Biden is going to suck up so much he'll make Obama look like a hard ball negotiator in comparison. We'll see, that's my prediction.

Garland was selected by Obama because he was the democrat most palatable to republican senators. That's what we'll be getting from a Biden administration.
