Also when they approve a drug for human use with safety tests, etc, it's not just a recipe - there's a validation of ingredients, workflow, production facilities. We already saw AstraZeneca bollox concentration of one ingredient by half.l, and that's it's own process/firmula. If the temperature is off, ingredient too old, boils too long, whatever, it might be ineffective or poisonous or...

I don't know how long it takes to validate an "OEM"/sub-rpducer, but I doubt it's instantaneous, and liabilities can be significant.

The classic pharma/IP issue is that the patent holder wants to maximize profits by charging way more than the marginal price of manufacturing a dose, and fears being undercut on price by other producers.

How many vaccines the state gets is decided by the federal government. According to the state's COVID vaccine website, New York state received approximately 200,000 to 300,000 vaccines a week for more than 7 million people currently eligible, so supply is limited.

It could take up to 14 weeks or more for eligible residents to schedule their vaccine shot, according to the state.

from Lohud.com news for Westchester county, NY, Feb. 1 And non-essential under 65 are currently not eligible! So 14 weeks and you haven't even gotten to the main population yet.
