It’s not that 5% are prone to get covid, it means you are 95% less likely to get covid if you are vaccinated. So if your odds of getting covid were 1 in 100 before being vaccinated, they are now ~1 in 2000.

So maybe 1/2500 chance in 2 months (0.04%) of catching it under bad (not necessarily existing) conditions, vs 20x worse (0.8%) otherwise. But If 20% of those other people also got vaccinated, those "bad conditions" got significantly better. There's a Bayesian framing based on "how many cases actually exist" that makes the % change not just a multiplier but closer to exponential

And then there's the decrease in severity if you're vaccinated, including the greatly decreased chance you'll die, not expressed in these numbers. Meaning the famous "herd immunity" is actually more reachable
