He made a mistake in that he was expecting you to have a sense of humor.

You could look it up to better understand what he was saying, but to be honest, I don't have a lot of hope that will help.

Like I said, it is completely sound to say that Haiti and countries like it are corrupt as hell. People from such places will tell you themselves. The point I am making has little to do with Haiti and making it about that ignores the rub.

People tried to break Donald Trump down for saying such things in coarse language. His anger while saying such things shows that he may have actually been upset by that reality, as opposed to at peace with it because they themselves are corrupt, which I would say is the case with liberals.

While he was president, Trump returned archeological artifacts that belonged to Haiti back to them. That was completely ignored by the media, while his "shithole" comments were emphasized.

Haiti was forced to repay France for the loss of French slaveholder land property (slaves)

Haiti represented 25% of Frances economy.

The total bill came to about $21 billion

Haiti was forced to pay because other nations, including the Gunited States failed to recognize Haiti until the debt was paid.

The United State feared that a slave revolution in Haiti would encourage slaves in the United States to revolt.

The United States maintained economic control over Haiti and manipulated elections

Haiti's internal structures atrophied

Every citizen in Haiti should be living in a million dollar, disaster-proof home if the $$ sent there had been used properly. But every penny, franc, euro, peso has been siphoned off by their "elected" leaders. When the leaders are executed or driven off (with suitcases full of cash), the gangs take what's left.

Haitians that I have known have been very hard-working and often skilled workers who have conme to other island such as Turks & Caicos. I don't know the answer, but the question remains: Why can't they rise above all this?

Are they so used to poverty that they just can't imagine good lives? One thing seems obvious...aid must be given in forms OTHER THAN MONEY and to individuals who apply for and recieve individual help with rebuilding. For now they need the basics, which also is not financial --water, food, shelter, etc.

It's singular. I don't know of any other country as fucked up as Haiti - and it's sharing an island with the reasonably successful Dominican Republic and a short hop to Florida, and lots of beautiful weather, Caribbean paradise, but in 200 years they haven't been able to get their shit together, not making fun of the natural disaster, but hard on the heels of assassinations, and general inability to rebuild with a ton of western aid.... It's a weird place.
