Thanks for your confidence in my ability to understand subtext. Unfortunately, the un-subtext will probably prevent my watching. I really can't stand watching people hit each other. So much so that, while I consider myself almost a pushover when it comes to classroom discipline, I totally freak out when my junior-high-level students hit or pinch each other.

Fight Club is about many things, and I suppose one of those is "violence as an antidote to boredom and insecurity", but that's definitely not what it's primarily about. Although it might get lost on some people, I have no doubt that you would be able to understand the deeper philosophical point that runs throughout the movie. You really should watch it.
