I couldn't help elaborating on it, seeing the kids as the mass of citizen-voters, Congress and the existing political/power elite as Mom, and Obama as the new live-in boyfiend/surrogate dad. Mom's just out of an eight-year abusive relationship with an erratic, violent gambler, and the kids quickly took a liking to the darkly handsome, smart, stable, charismatic out-of-towner who moved in next door.

When Mom notices the fatherly interest he's shown in the kids, she also embraces him -- at least initially. But almost immediately her insecurities and addictions, and the kids' problems at school, start fraying the relationship. The family budget is also a big bone of contention. Further complicating things is the jealousy of the school principal (Supreme Court) who used to have a thing on the side with Mom.

I have no idea how things turn out, but it's daytime drama at its finest. Too bad it's also reality.

Mon, 30 Aug 2010 19:52:41 +0000 acanuck comment 12054 at http://dagblog.com
