I was there, I wanted to be part of the elite counterculture but it was not dominant, you realize there really was a "silent majority" and most young people wanted for nothing more than having a life and culture just like their parents, a small suburban house and a nuclear family. Certainly 90% of my huge high school in Milwaukee was people like that, they even rejected rock music, didn't like it. It may have been different where you grew up if it was in a famously liberal rorthwest area, in most places It really was a <em>counter </em>culture and remained so until like when Clinton/Gore ascended to the White House. A presidential candidate who wore shades indoors while playing the sax and going on late night tv talk shows, that was a shocking announcement that the main culture had finally accepted the counter culture.</p> <p>so to take that to your argument here - that would mean you are presuming the elite woke of today are ALL the actual biological children of the elite outliers of the boomer generation, that they are reacting against their own parents, and that both generations were/are able to co-opt many larger demographics somehow.</p> </div></div></div> Sun, 22 May 2022 21:04:57 +0000 artappraiser comment 317353 at http://dagblog.com if you actually dig into the http://dagblog.com/comment/317352#comment-317352 <a id="comment-317352"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/317344#comment-317344">Lots of good things will come</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>if you actually dig into the (stupid) census categories, you can prove all sorts of things countering the popular racial narratives, like this great new example:</p> <p> </p><div class="media_embed"> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" height="" width=""> <p dir="ltr" lang="en" xml:lang="en">"According to the 2019 New York City NYC Government Poverty Measure, 23.8% of Asians are in poverty by municipal standards. Sub-culture is not about race, it 's about sub-culture. Doing the same with ethnicity doesn't help either, because people can easily escape the ethnic culture if they chose to do so, i.e. Peracles Kazakh girl not wanting to be equated as part of the Kazakh tribe but with the techie tribe.</p> </div></div></div> Sun, 22 May 2022 20:46:49 +0000 artappraiser comment 317352 at http://dagblog.com oh god, praying for this to http://dagblog.com/comment/317351#comment-317351 <a id="comment-317351"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/link/wokedom-campus-princeton-edition-35358">Wokedom on Campus, Princeton edition</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>oh god, praying for this to be true, would be so nice that it mostly returns to college students only</p> <p> </p><div class="media_embed"> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" height="" width=""> <p dir="ltr" lang="en" xml:lang="en">Due to the increasing maturity of participants on both sides, the Culture War has been officially downgraded to a Culture Conflict.</p> — James Tiberius Stone (@Evolving_Ego) <a href="https://twitter.com/Evolving_Ego/status/1528453712678686720?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 22, 2022</a></blockquote> <script async="" charset="utf-8" height="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" width=""></script></div> </div></div></div> Sun, 22 May 2022 20:35:09 +0000 artappraiser comment 317351 at http://dagblog.com Of course their children have http://dagblog.com/comment/317350#comment-317350 <a id="comment-317350"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/317349#comment-317349">I&#039;d say that wokedom is a</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>Of course their children have that luxury. Everyone wants to belong and have a sense of who they are.</p> </div></div></div> Sat, 21 May 2022 19:18:52 +0000 Orion comment 317349 at http://dagblog.com
