PPP isn’t actually purchasing power. It’s mostly based on how similar your local expenditures are to suburban USA preferences.

What you say is true about Mississippi as not being a hell-hole, but I've spent a lot of time in rural Mississippi and some time in rural NZ. Mississippi seemed poorer by a fair margin.
