I lived two blocks away when I first moved to NYC. In 84, the crime rate was high but that was the fashionable upper west side (big movie theater, post office, Barnes & Noble, Tower Video/Records right there. Lincoln Center and ABC TV studios very close by; at midnight the street would still be very crowded and including lots of performers of all kinds Actually I remember Tower closing at midnight, everbody trying to make video returns)

A 56-year-old woman was walking with her husband near Broadway and West 69th Street just after midnight, when a man punched her in the face. The victim’s husband began chasing the assailant while yelling for help.
