NAACP hand-delivered its complaint today to state Attorney General Roy Cooper and State Board of Elections Executive Director Gary Bartlett. It's also alerted the U.S. Department of Justice that it's collecting more information from its national network and is contemplating filing a formal complaint with that agency."
I was amazed at the fact even the North Carolina media were ignoring the story. This formal complaint -- and the possible followup one to the DoJ -- should ensure that it doesn't go down the memory hole.
It's been a week since this Facing South broke this story, and all anyone has heard from Women's Voices Women Vote and its fans is that the group has a solid reputation, and has done lots of really good work in the past.
No addressing of the specific problems with the misleading robocalls, just an admission that mistakes were made and everything is being rectified.
The N.C. NAACP rightly got fed up with this stonewalling.
WVWV had a week to come clean. Time's up.

Sun, 04 May 2008 00:08:16 +0000 acanuck comment 14635 at http://dagblog.com
