The Nature Conservancy tries to buy up corridors that links protected areas. But efforts will probably have to be increased 10-fold or some things could just go extinct. In mountainous areas, things can simply move up--except creatures and plants already at the top. Pikas in Colorado, for instance, will be in trouble as their alpine tundra homes shrink.

Wed, 26 May 2010 23:03:27 +0000 matyra comment 15671 at http://dagblog.com No thanks to purgatory for http://dagblog.com/comment/15670#comment-15670
In reply to Our Choice: Kill The Future Of The World Or Preserve It

No thanks to purgatory for me. I basically agree with James Hansen and Bill McKibben. We have unforgivably squandered 20 years on this, things are very likely to get rather bad eventually, and we need to prepare for that AND finally start to take REAL action to minimize the risk of things getting much worse. I just want to say though: I don't think even one genuine scientist in a thousand denies the reality and seriously negative consequences of global warming, but neither does one in a thousand predict that it will wipe out the human species entirely.

Wed, 26 May 2010 22:38:55 +0000 PTroub comment 15670 at http://dagblog.com I'd have to agree that it is http://dagblog.com/comment/15669#comment-15669
In reply to Our Choice: Kill The Future Of The World Or Preserve It

I'd have to agree that it is too little too late, but that doesn't mean they couldn't do things that matter because they can. The problem is that doing anything that makes a real difference is going to cut into some rich people's profits and that means you have to have a leader with some balls to push it through anyway. Sad to say, we don't have that.

Wed, 26 May 2010 21:22:00 +0000 oleeb comment 15669 at http://dagblog.com Support it but know it's too http://dagblog.com/comment/15668#comment-15668
In reply to Our Choice: Kill The Future Of The World Or Preserve It

Support it but know it's too late.

Wed, 26 May 2010 20:33:49 +0000 Kali Star comment 15668 at http://dagblog.com Have never thought about http://dagblog.com/comment/15667#comment-15667
In reply to Our Choice: Kill The Future Of The World Or Preserve It

Have never thought about this. Even the rednecks out here respect us and buy our food to supplement their forest-fed deer and elk. It's people like you that give corporations the OK to pollute millions of wheat land with pesticides and then pass on the poisons to real people who get sick from it.
