Well, I can understand the sympathy, but consider that the LTTE has made allegations that the government killed a thousand citizens and there are still some unanswered questions about how the government handled the war and why it began in the first place. So it's entirely possible that even when the last stronghold falls, the government may still be facing prospects of prolonged guerilla insurgency.
