I enjoyed Colbert's testimony, but I'm going to have to disagree that it's anywhere near as golden as his White House Correspondent's dinner presentation.

I agree with everything else, though.

Thanks for mentioning the Harvest of Shame. And yes, it continues as it has for so many decades. Frankly, that's one of the things that I so admired about Colbert doing this on this particular subject. Without his participation, the farmworkers would not be on any of our minds right now.

Did you all see the Colbert questioning part of his testimony, where Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) asked Colbert about The GOP policy aka The Pledge:

COLBERT: By the way I do endorse your policies. I do endorse your policies. You asked me if I endorse Republican policies. I endorse all Republican policies without question.
SMITH: Okay, including the requirement that members have 72 hours to read a bill before we vote on it?
COLBERT: Absolutely.
SMITH: Thank you for your endorsement of the “Pledge to America.”

Smith then threw a look at the Democratic Chairwoman as if showing her how smart he was to ask the question. Think Progress-video at:

The page also says Darrell Issa (R-CA) tweeted the news that Colbert supported the GOP Pledge. These guys were taken in 100% by the sarcasm, if they even know what the word means.

Colbert gets his power, and his laughs, from the realities that people in power deny. That our "journalists" are now in the denying-reality game makes him more powerful, for darker reasons.
