In addition to the summary pop-up I mentioned, I would create an add-link pop-up so that you wouldn't have to go to a new page to add a link. I would also display some kind of counter to show how many people had clicked the link.

In any case, I appreciate you putting in these links. Maybe some others will end up picking up the slack. And I'll try to get in the habit of doing it myself.

Sun, 12 Dec 2010 02:30:17 +0000 Michael Wolraich comment 97291 at http://dagblog.com Wasn't really complainin' was http://dagblog.com/comment/97271#comment-97271
In reply to I know. I even think your decision to have title links go directly to the source shows a lot of wisdom, because that way you should get little grief about copyright issues. No big deal that it makes it necessary to go to the full menu to see the poster's added text, those that are interested would do so.

I never understood why more people don't want to take a minute to share that great piece they are reading, chosing instead to spend that minute arguing the same point they've gone over a gazillion times before or thinking that it's not correct blog etiquette to recommend something without putting your own lengthy and time consuming spin on it. But that's just me! And maybe only me and a few other kooks. I really enjoy reposting articles I think recommendable, for my selfish inteest it's like notetaking, it helps me process and remember. But I think it's also good to just get people thinking that there's other things going on in the world besides the hot topic of the day in the blogopshere and on talk radio, even if all they do is glance at the headlines. If just to prove that the canard that nobody in the "the MSM" covering this or that, it is usually not true. I suspect what's true is that many want to commune around the hot topics as a social activity (which mankind has always done--not blaming it on the blogosphere) but think of reading news as "homework"that others will take are of.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like too many are interested in joining me and would rather spend their blog time elsewhere. I can only participate like this in fits and starts, you can't depend on me doing it all the time. So you're probably going to see it fail. No big deal. But I'lll be happy to continue to participate when I've read something I think worth sharing whenever I have time as long as you have it up. Because you've made it incredibly easy--actually takes less than a minute.

Geez for one example--see I could have posted ten news items in the considerable time I took to write this meta crap up, second guessing everything I am writing so someone like quinn doesn't start picking it apart suspecting some nefarious agenda on my part, or use it to explain to me why I am a nasty person or just try to get me to fight like a hockey player or whatevah......why anyone bothers to post anything but links sometimes puzzles me, it too often ends up in masochistic exercises except for the sadists.

Sun, 12 Dec 2010 00:57:13 +0000 artappraiser comment 97271 at http://dagblog.com Myself, I find it valuable, I http://dagblog.com/comment/97125#comment-97125
In reply to I know. Sorry for the trouble. I want the link to go directly to the article, but as a result, it skips the main view that would allow you to edit.

My long term plan is pop up a small dialog window when users click the link. The dialog would include the article summary and links to go to the full article, add a comment, edit the link, etc.

How do you that feel that this thing is working out? You've been adding more content here than anyone else by far. Do you enjoy doing it, or is it too much work?

I'm curious about your thoughts now, but I also plan to start a meta discussion about it next week after people have had a chance to use it.

Fri, 10 Dec 2010 22:36:57 +0000 Michael Wolraich comment 97046 at http://dagblog.com Meta: Commenting so I can http://dagblog.com/comment/96982#comment-96982
In reply to Occidental to acquire North Dakota, Texas oil and gas fields for $3.2 billion

Meta: Commenting so I can edit the duplicated phrase in the post.
