Excellent piece. Republicans who use an ineffective government response to emergency situations as proof that government doesn't work should, in my opinion, be taken out and kicked repeatedly in the groin. Republicans have spent 30 years dismantling the inner workings of government, either by underfunding departments or by loading up agencies with people who are opposed to the goals of their own agencies, so it's no wonder government is unable to respond effectively when we need it in an emergency. They then have the gall to say "See? Government doesn't work." The b*st*rds,.

As Dems, I think we need to work on coming up with a simple explanation to demonstrates just how harmful Norquist's vision of government really is to the average American, rather than buying into the idea.
