I note that New York not upholding the South's rights to slaves was not hypocrisy - it was a given right in the constitution. Immoral, assuredly, but an enumerated right.</p><p>States Rights refers to rights not enumerated falling back to the states. This one is enumerated.</p><p>13-15 amendments came later, are immaterial.
