The "A" stands for anarchy and the "O" stands for order. Together they stand for "Anarchy is Order". As a tattoosymbol, the anarchy symbol has been very popular with groups whose members have considered themselves as being on the fringes of accepted society, either because of their belief systems or their lifestyle. The anarchy symbol has at various times been embraced by punks, skin-heads and the gay community. It has also been used to protest globalism - as in global-capitalism or industrialization, global-warming and been embraced by environmental activists.

Political anarchists prized the rights of the individual and minorities over the potential tyranny of the majority. The Anarchy symbols first came into use over one hundred and fifty years ago and was used to protest oppressive governmental regimes, monarchies and states that outlawed unions. Other symbols of anarchy have been the extensive use of the colour black, as used in black flags, black crosses and black cats; a symbol of a raised clenched fist, and a number of variations on the Jolly Roger or Skull and Crossed Bones, the chosen flag of pirates who sailed for no nation but themselves.

http://www.vanishingtattoo.com/tattoos_designs_symbols_anarchy.htm

Thu, 13 Jan 2011 19:56:09 +0000 EmmaZahn comment 102508 at http://dagblog.com When the paperback of Blowing http://dagblog.com/comment/102496#comment-102496
In reply to Killing Fathers and Children

When the paperback of Blowing Smoke comes out, Genghis is going to have to add a chapter about this. Right out of the gate the Republicans painted themselves as victims. The cries of "stop blaming us" were so loud that it's almost as if they forgot people died.

Thu, 13 Jan 2011 17:33:44 +0000 Michael Maiello comment 102496 at http://dagblog.com And as I'm reading the http://dagblog.com/comment/102490#comment-102490
In reply to I read something about

And as I'm reading the comments here Ann Coulter is glaring at me from the Right----------->

Mind control??

Thu, 13 Jan 2011 15:53:10 +0000 Ramona comment 102490 at http://dagblog.com I read something about http://dagblog.com/comment/102489#comment-102489
In reply to Killing Fathers and Children

I read something about grammar control the other day but didn't follow up until I read your post here:

According to the Southern Poverty Law Centre, a U.S. civil rights group, Loughner's language and beliefs appeared to resemble those of David Wynn Miller, a Milwaukee-based activist who believes the U.S. government uses grammar to control people's minds.

Miller, 62, a retired welder, has described himself as a plenipotentiary judge, ambassador, banker, genius and King of Hawaii, and invented his own form of grammar called "truth language", that is said to set people free of the government.

He said he was appalled by the shootings, but agreed with Loughner's pre-shooting Internet statement that "the government is implying mind control and brainwash on the people by controlling grammar". Miller told the Milwaukee Journal that Loughner could have visited his website but he didn't know him and he was "obviously disturbed".

Read more: http://bit.ly/hA8b1R

And this about David Wynn Miller: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Wynn_Miller

For every nutcase leader there are thousands of nutcase followers. Makes the job of promoting reason and truth all that much harder.

Thu, 13 Jan 2011 15:51:15 +0000 Ramona comment 102489 at http://dagblog.com Good blog Donal. Nearly everyone today on the political right seems to hold the same belief that THEY should be exempt from any humane actions and responsibility. As I had stated before, far too many of them come off as spoiled, badly parented, self centered 2 year olds. Complete with the ever present temper tantrums and screaming. But add a weapon to this mix and you have a potentially hazardous situation indeed.

Typical Republican

Thu, 13 Jan 2011 15:10:31 +0000 cmaukonen comment 102484 at http://dagblog.com
