It is quite ironic that the U.S. - as a supposed "champion of democracy" - is sometimes compelled to support democracy (as in Egypt) only to have the people turn on us, asking "What have you done for me lately?"

In too many instances, we prop up dictators like Mubarek, the Pahlavis, the Sauds, etc. And so too often the question that is asked of doesn't redound to our benefit.

Realpolitick doesn't ever seem to work over the long haul. It's therefore a lousy way to run a State Department.
