I believe they have plans, still in effect, to transition to a model like the Financial Times, where your ISP address only gets to view so many articles online perr month free, and then you will need a online subscription to view more. Unlike the Wall Street Journal model, though, where there are separate subscription fees for both versions, subscribers to the dead tree edition will get full online access free. If I recall correctly, it's supposed to happen this year.

I've gotten flyers about subscribing to the NY Times, and I don't really mind paying something for it, but they insist on basing their pricing on delivery of paper copies that I don't need stacked in front of either place I live.
