The real problem will be convincing those hiding out in their gated community, cul de sac McMansions they're going to have to associate with the rest of us rif-raf they're hiding from.

Perhaps a lot of the 47% allocation for passenger travel, which I assume includes commutes from home to work and back, would drop significantly if we reorganize the neighborhood where one can walk to most of the services one needs without a car. And for those in the 'burbs, perhaps a light rail system or underground tube. That way the personal auto would only be necessary for week-end recreation. The real problem will be convincing those hiding out in their gated community, cul de sac McMansions they're going to have to associate with the rest of us rif-raf they're hiding from.
