I remember at the time of its release ( I was in my 40’s ) being struck by how easily the target audience accepted this dystopic portrayal of the future L.A. I was frankly surprised at the tone of “realism” with which it was accepted by the 20 somethings of that time. I had several conversations with university students from my brother’s astronomy classes and came away convinced they did not categorize this as science-fantasy. They are now of course in their 40’s and little has happened to dissuade them of this opinion I should think. All of this sets an interesting backdrop for the social and political discourse that they, as I, engage in today.

Mon, 07 Mar 2011 06:42:50 +0000 LarryH comment 109278 at http://dagblog.com It is a most excellent movie, http://dagblog.com/comment/109193#comment-109193
In reply to Thanks DD. I think this is

It is a most excellent movie, and the book it is based on (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?) is very good, as well.

As for your contention about Blade Runner being darker than, say, HG Wells' stuff, I don't know. Both the Eloi and the Morlock (from The Time Machine) seem pretty damn dystopian to me!

Sun, 06 Mar 2011 15:11:48 +0000 Verified Atheist comment 109193 at http://dagblog.com Thanks DD. I think this is http://dagblog.com/comment/109188#comment-109188
In reply to I loved this movie.Olmos with

Thanks DD. I think this is one my favorite Harrison Ford flicks.
