Takes me back, too.  I remember how scary the idea of Communists in every neighborhood was to us as kids.  We had "Commies" kitty-corner from us, or so we were told, and we always crossed the street rather than walk past their house.  I know now that they weren't communists, but once they set a box out in their trash filled with excelsior (shredded newspapers) and the word was they were trying to get rid of papers they didn't want anyone to see.  Oh, it was fun! For us.</p><p>We were terrified of the H-Bomb and every time we heard a "boom" we thought we were done for.  People were building underground bomb shelters and there were signs like these everywhere:</p><p><img src="http://www.petpeoplesplace.com/petstore/pet-image-large/1950s-cold-war-fallout-shelter-atomic-bomb-dod-sign-nm_320650484061.jpg" alt="" /></p><p> </p><p>I still love Miracle Whip and I don't apologize because it's way better for us than Mayo.   (But it has to be at least half mayo in chicken salad and red-skin potato salad.)</p><p> </p></div></div></div> Thu, 14 Apr 2011 13:06:08 +0000 Ramona comment 115277 at http://dagblog.com Always loved Mr. Knowitall. http://dagblog.com/comment/115266#comment-115266 <a id="comment-115266"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/115252#comment-115252">And Rocky and Bullwinkle had</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>Always loved Mr. Knowitall. hahahahah</p></div></div></div> Thu, 14 Apr 2011 08:56:53 +0000 Richard Day comment 115266 at http://dagblog.com And Rocky and Bullwinkle had http://dagblog.com/comment/115252#comment-115252 <a id="comment-115252"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/reader-blogs/my-back-pages-9808">MY BACK PAGES</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>And Rocky and Bullwinkle had all the awswers.</p><p><object data="http://www.youtube.com/v/CuWhgyGWkgE" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" height="329" width="400"><param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CuWhgyGWkgE" /></object></p></div></div></div> Thu, 14 Apr 2011 04:05:09 +0000 cmaukonen comment 115252 at http://dagblog.com Sounds like an interesting http://dagblog.com/comment/115138#comment-115138 <a id="comment-115138"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/115134#comment-115134">For a fact Arkansas is</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>Sounds like an interesting character!</p></div></div></div> Wed, 13 Apr 2011 15:32:24 +0000 Richard Day comment 115138 at http://dagblog.com Well I watched the cartoons! http://dagblog.com/comment/115136#comment-115136 <a id="comment-115136"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/comment/115110#comment-115110">One of my favorite Dylan</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>Well I watched the cartoons!</p></div></div></div> Wed, 13 Apr 2011 15:20:23 +0000 Richard Day comment 115136 at http://dagblog.com For a fact Arkansas is http://dagblog.com/comment/115134#comment-115134 <a id="comment-115134"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/reader-blogs/my-back-pages-9808">MY BACK PAGES</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>For a fact Arkansas is traditionally pronounced 'R-Kansas'. </p><p>To further enlighten folks, Iowa is historically pronounced 'Eye -O - Way".</p><p>I learned these pronunciations from a 85+ year old over 20 years ago who grew up and lived in the midwest. He was an authentic old time midwesterner. He recalled his family breaking the plains in Nebraska and having to steer plows around the still remaining buffalo wallows. He also killed kittens. Kept only the number needed to keep rodents out of the corn bins.  He repaired his roof at age 85+, rolled his potatoes in lime before planting, and cut all his own wood.</p></div></div></div> Wed, 13 Apr 2011 15:17:15 +0000 NCD comment 115134 at http://dagblog.com One of my favorite Dylan http://dagblog.com/comment/115110#comment-115110 <a id="comment-115110"></a> <p><em>In reply to <a href="http://dagblog.com/reader-blogs/my-back-pages-9808">MY BACK PAGES</a></em></p> <div class="field field-name-comment-body field-type-text-long field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p>One of my favorite Dylan tunes, and a great cover, IMO.  Makes my heart swell for some reason...oh yeah; I just rmembered the reason.  Shhhhhh; never mind.</p> <p>You didn't mention if you read 'Yosse-Might" Sam in the comic books.      ;o)</p> <p>   <img alt="" src="http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs51/f/2009/297/4/b/Yosemite_Sam_Doodle_by_MatthewHunter.jpg" width="221" height="151" /></p></div></div></div> Wed, 13 Apr 2011 13:53:31 +0000 we are stardust comment 115110 at http://dagblog.com
