Focus: EPIC #COVID19 WILDFIRE—Not exaggerating that COVID is blazing out of control. **27* states have new record highs. And remember AZ’s crazy epidemic summer? That was only at 500 cases / million people. 15 states now exceed that epidemic water mark. (Analysis by my FAS team). pic.twitter.com/IzPmPLUeSl
2) Biden’s new coming #COVID19 task force is good, but Jan 20th is still far away until Biden can take office. We must focus our pressure on the governors to act, as well as the Georgia senate races that determine Senate control.
BREAKING: Minneapolis-St Paul hospitals. ICU capacity is effectively maxed out at 98% in Twin Cities, and 92% statewide. MN is having bad #COVID19 surge—11th worst in the Us, with ND and SD having even worse. https://t.co/zzVIl1MyM7
2) I say effectively maxed because while hospital beds can be increased, ICU beds are much more difficult. And hospital staff no longer have the surge capacity like in the April/May epidemics when extra doctors and nurses are available to come from elsewhere. No longer.
“At this time, we’re headed in a direction of overwhelming our health care systems and I think that’s closer than what people understand.” https://t.co/3G8YwWZoIZ
The horrible news, all neatly packed into these 7 tweets:
SOBERING: We hit 10 million total #COVID19 cases today in the US. Over the past week, there has been an average of 106,972 cases/day, an increase of 57% from the average two weeks earlier. Video shows how we got here. We’re headed towards 200,000 new cases/day by Thanksgiving. pic.twitter.com/mPSC8btl4q
6) daily deaths likely to double by the end of the month compared to last month, according to our FAS analysis. (HT @euromaestro). https://t.co/UJd6ccuYBw
7) For pandemic deniers who falsely call it a “casedemic”, they cannot explain the new reality of hospitalizations and deaths rising, which always come a few weeks after cases increase. #COVID19pic.twitter.com/DlgqTKVscG
supposed solutions for mass transit are disappointing:
Early results in the testing of two technologies aimed at combating the spread of COVID-19 onboard LIRR trains have proved disappointing, transit officials said. https://t.co/6ncaCHx6Nt
BREAKING—El Paso #COVID19 deaths surging so fast, they now need **10** mobile morgues to store deceased bodies, up from 4 last week. 4 new mobile morgues will goto funeral homes directly. El Paso judge also extending shutdown until hospitals recover. https://t.co/cIy7la33AHpic.twitter.com/uQLiGy5DNQ
2) Even more frustrating—the mayor of El Paso is opposing Judge Samaniego’s shutdown. “El Paso Mayor Dee Margo called order unenforceable and directed El Pasoans not to shut down, and the El Paso PD said they wouldn’t enforce it”. But judge-controlled sheriff & constables will.
Europe’s Hospital Crunch Grows More Dire, Surpassing Spring Peak. More than twice as many people in Europe are hospitalized with Covid-19 as in the United States, adjusted for population. https://t.co/3E6a8gbE4Epic.twitter.com/riKOltGg3Y
HUGE vaccine news—Pfizer just announced its vaccine is 90% effective vs placebo from early 7-day findings. So far results are from 94 confirmed #COVID19 infections among trial's 43,538 participants. Longer term results still pending. But very hopeful. https://t.co/PCv5W2IaJD
