A California dispatch from @VivianHo following up on our water findings— ‘It's a toxic blend': where the kids are warned not to swallow the bath water https://t.co/sWoGNP3uwk
Republicans’ handling of the storm probably won’t hurt them in 2022: Talk of Texas going blue is almost always exaggerated, Abbott is relatively popular, & Dems don’t have an obvious challenger https://t.co/LFCdxe7Q5F
“The future will not be like the past. Our models are degrading by the day, and we don’t understand — we don’t want to understand — how much in society could topple when they fail, and how much suffering that could bring.” (1/x) https://t.co/bajSdLEdR4
“One place to start is by recognizing how fragile the basic infrastructure of civilization is even now, in this climate, in rich countries. Which brings me to Texas.”
“The problem, as @RogerPielkeJr wrote in his newsletter, is that Texas’ worst-case scenario planning used a 2011 cold snap that was a one-in-10-year weather event. It wasn’t even the worst cold Texas experienced in living memory.”
Aside from the damage to citizens living there, I suspect this will be a problem for anyone from Texas who wants to travel to another state. He has just basically seceded from the Union for the duration of the pandemic?
Gov. Abbott is going to be responsible for more avoidable COVID hospitalizations and deaths than all the undocumented immigrants coming across the Texas border put together. https://t.co/dSsdQQ6sxp
just curious to see if Elon Musk had anything to say on the matter, looks like he's just not into that, tweeted this 45 min. ago, basically planning on his own free state with its own gummint anyhow?
Nate Silver as always, thinks to look up related facts on the matter:
What's kind of screwed up is that states like Texas and Florida that are eager to fully open up tend not to have made the vaccine available for essential workers yet, whereas the more "closed" states (though nowhere is truly closed) largely have.https://t.co/KzISbdaYKEpic.twitter.com/jG0oKCxLQD
1) is Michael Moore dictator? Will his tweet really matter to any Texas or US official?
2) when Texas kept threatening to secede, did we issue a bunch of PSAs explaining really this was only a few Texans, not the majority? When they bragged about voting for Trump and Cruz did we remind that it was only 60-65%?
No, we just said "Texans are dumber than rain water - let 'em secede, take Ted with you." Was that insensitive and offend nin-Yrumo voters and non-seceders? Who gives a shit - campaign harder so youre not shamed by your awful weird neighbors.
turns people like Yglesias off, turns people like me off, isn't that enough for you? that's it's bad messaging. Tweets are public messaging and can be retweeted.. (Yglesias retweeted it and countered just for that reason.) We don't want to be in a party where he's a member. He's bound and determined to be the poster boy for the intolerant liberal stereotype that does resound and turns moderates toward voting GOP downticket. Every reinforcement of the stereotype is soooo counter-productive politically. I really truly would like to be able to join a party where Michael Moore types are not a member, would jump at the chance.
Fox News just loves them some threats from libruls, they play it to the max-scroll ahead here to 2:00 where they play the tape they dug up of a Michigan rep
