NEW: An aggressive plan to investigate the Jan 6 attack violated the First Amendment, echoing post-9/11 errors. Killed by top officials, the plan shows the balancing act that DOJ face as it combats domestic extremism w/o violating civil liberties.https://t.co/GLh1rX6q1B
EXTENSIVE thread live tweeted from related courtroom action today:
Hello from Judge Chris Cooper's virtual courtroom, where arguments are starting soon on Richard Barnett's motion for release — he's the one who told reporters he left Pelosi a note that said, "Nancy, Bigo was here, you bitch" (looks like "bitch" was misspelled on the actual note) pic.twitter.com/OlXXdYGSwT
Mr. Pence lavishly documented his early departure in a series of tweets and an official statement issued by his office. On Twitter, he declared, “I left today’s Colts game because @POTUS and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem.”
Oh wait, that was when the Republican VP used NFL players kneeling during the national anthem as a phony 'law and order' campaign prop, a self righteous gesture to claim Republicans are the true America loving patriots.
There were no gallows erected on the football field by the players, no calls from them to hang Pence or anyone else, and no attacks with American flags on stadium security. It was a peaceful gesture in the tradition of non-violence.
These aspiring politicians went to the DC "Stop The Steal" rally, with one even going inside the Capitol. Meet the campaign class of 1/6: https://t.co/nLdRURUkwV
Mike Pence apparently has gotten some political advisors telling him to pretend like none it ever happened and it's 1994?
The most disturbing development of the last 100 days has been the Biden administration’s whole-hearted embrace of the radical left’s all-encompassing, rapidly-escalating war on American traditional values:
More proof federal forces aren't trained to handle civil unrest; up until now they've left that up to police. While those at the Portland Federal courthouse sent by the Trump admin. may or may not have been thugs, that's not the heart of the issue, which is: they simply aren't trained to do it, haven't a clue:
So the "Operation Legend" started under Barr's DOJ, where FBI & ATF etc. are sent to work with local police forces that need help dealing with crime waves, was not to my mind a completely wack idea. Reading up on it during Trump presidency, I got the inkling that it was a project that came bottom up from rank & file DOJ, not top down from Trumpies, that many see the problem percolating of domestic extremism and crime and unrest, and they felt there should be much more communication.
That Barr/Trump may have promoted it for other motives doesn't necessarily negate the need.
Here's the real problem with it ideologically: libertarians, many conservatives, some lefties, including anarchist-leaners, feel very strongly that policing should be a locally controlled issue where the Federal government should not interfere.
A pumped-up TSA was no brainer that few could argue with because it's about cross-country and international travel.
But protection of Federal buildings located within local police jurisdictions is another matter. There is resistance by many of pumping up Federal forces, on a constitutional level. The unprepared-ness of Capitol Police force may have been intentional in a way.
Funny-not-that this ideological conflict also connects with the debate about DC statehood! If DC were a state, then...get what I am saying?
Edit to add: go back to Janet Reno, the evil enemy of freeeeedom, interfering in matters none of her business, burner of compounds with children in them, etc. Not to mention sending a little boy back to Cuba by force (where were the social workers )
Attorney for Capitol defendant Anthony Antonio said his client had “Foxitus” and “Foxmania” from watching six months of Fox News and started “believing what was being fed to him” by Fox News and the president. pic.twitter.com/aHMppeb1yc
Antonio talked to the feds with his lawyer pretty early, and told them he saw “death” in the eyes of D.C. Police Officer Mike Fanone as the mob pulled the officer into the crowd. https://t.co/jbtSEYIYiFpic.twitter.com/SWtGKDVuLz
Former acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller clashed with Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.) on Wednesday over former President Trump’s culpability in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack after the ex-Pentagon chief appeared to walk back previous comments blaming Trump.
At a House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing, Lynch asked Miller whether the attack would have happened without Trump’s speech at a rally that preceded the breach, noting comments Miller made to Vice in March blaming Trump [....]
$3.5m Trump money planning attacks doesn't lower Trump's responsibility, tho it might say other parts of Trump's plan were as effective in launching the attack as Trump's speech. Is that what Miller intended to say?
105 of my colleagues signed this letter headed to @GOPLeader McCarthy asking him to meet Officer Mike Fanone. So far, McCarthy has refused. RT to make sure Officer Fanone can tell McCarthy 1/6 was no “normal tourist day” at the Capitol. #PoliceWeekpic.twitter.com/00JwpfKFeo

Waiting for "Stand Your Ground" law-and-irder gun advocates to speak up in the cop's defense.
I mean, just cuz she was an easy target doesn't make it less defensible, amirite?
