One west European turn after Suez was to Russian energy. A French move was to have oil-rich Algeria then still a French colony in the EEC. Now Europe wants to turn away from Russian gas, the Algeria option - already crucial for Spain + Italy - is back: https://t.co/JQRdCaXSWr
Italy plans to strengthen its energy ties with Algeria in a new pact to be unveiled next week during Prime Minister Mario Draghi’s trip to the north African country https://t.co/dCplSw4tla
This is going to backfire hard on Russia. Sanctions may actually cause the Russian Federation to fracture/collapse, and the European Union will absorb multiple Eastern European states in to its orbit, while also creating new relationships with states with Russian sympathies and ties.
But here is a clincher and I do not mean this to sound conspiratorial - the treasury got looted hard when the Soviet Union collapsed and Putin is up there in years, having been president for 23 years. There might actually be an incentive somewhere around there to bring the whole thing down.
What the?? This video taken yesterday in Shanghai, China, by the father of a close friend of mine. She verified its authenticity: People screaming out of their windows after a week of total lockdown, no leaving your apartment for any reason. pic.twitter.com/iHGOO8D8Cz
The translation she gave me: “It’s Shanghai, everyone is screaming, started with a couple now everyone is screaming, after a week of lockdown, something is going to happen, no one knows when this is going to end.”
He says they can’t even step outside their apartments.
My son and his partner have been stuck in their apartment for 10 days in Shanghai. Can't even leave to walk their dogs. Food and water ran out today. Trying to order provisions, to no avail.Familys with children are desperate
He's a grownup non-ideological Senator who does his homework about policy and cares about his state and the country. We need more like him and fewer like the ideologues and egotists and extremists who bash him and blame him incorrectly for stuff they don't understand.
edit to add what he has on his Twitter home page, my underlining: U.S. Senator for #WV. Chairman of @EnergyDems. Please do not hesitate to contact me to share your commonsense ideas, concerns or if you need assistance.
way interesting that this 2017 news thread started by Peracles has turned up on "Hits of the Day" menu (possibly because someone has cited it somewhere else on the internet? I've always suspected that is how that menu works) Note the other stories, links, and discussion on the thread...

It's just a worldquake as happens from time to time:
A reminder that the more passionate "Greens" would say that it's just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
