Gangbanger tied to high-end NYC heists gets sweetheart deal from DA Alvin Bragg

I understand Lightfoot is a mess, as is the SF City Council head that pushes stupid shit thru despite the mayor, but other cities - why does sane "lock up dangerous or shown repeat offenders" get undermined so much? Does lightening one's workload by getting bad publicity really even help him at all, or it's just a BS excuse for another motive?
...Other defectors include two chiefs of special litigation, Patricia Bailey and Maureen O’Connor. Both left in May, Bragg’s office confirmed. They were among some 65 ADAs who left in the first half of 2022, an exodus partially blamed on onerous state criminal justice reforms.
The office’s human resources director also quit, leaving in October....

Law abiding top staffers leaving rogue Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg's office and its soft-on-crime policies. A real prosecutor who wanted to uphold the responsibilities of a DA, and apparently that doesn’t work here anymore,” a fed-up insider said. https://t.co/gm4B5En7Jq
A reminder that Hochl's re-election was suprisingly close, even though her opponent was a start raving anti-abortion nut, he ran mostly on crime and taxpayers were fed up with soft on crime BLM-influenced state goverment:
New York, why would any sensible organization give center stage to crime lord Alvin Bragg? Joining Bragg was Dis- Grace Lee who vowed to keep the crime bill cashless bail and a new crime bill Clean Slate. This is a table of evildoers who ruined our city and get New Yorkers killed https://t.co/064WGIIzAr

“The best time to give someone help is as early as possible, and if we don’t succeed there, the second-best time is if they are impacted by the criminal justice system-immediately upon arraignment and this approach is going after both of those types of intervention.” - @AlexBorespic.twitter.com/kmqz1lmqVy
Essentially, local Democrats LIE, play both sides, tell the center they are going to be tough on crime now but still feed lefties who cotton to BLM/defund theory. Not like Bloomberg, who was basically: fuck you lefties, we're going to clean up this city, like it or not, I'm even going to have cops stop and frisk, and send squeegee guys to jail - even Singapore style sometimes, i.e., no throwing your gum on the sidewalk. See for example, how Lightfoot talks out of both sides of her mouth, expressing outrage about a shooting a thousand miles away, but zipped lips about criminals killing each other in her own city, Kim Foxx is worse than Alvin Bragg, much like Chesa Boudin, everyone of color is a victim and the white taxpayers are the oppressors and need to keep paying for the slave-owning sins of their forefathers, yadda yadda. Lefites still run the big blue cities, make no mistake. Woke rich white liberal elite in wealthy areas of the city centers + uneducated ghetto denizens in the bad hoods within the city line who blame whites for their problems make a political majority. Everyone else, the middle class (pro-car btw) fled the city because they can't afford to live safely there nor get a decent education for their kids there.
edit to add: the latter, that's where all the swing voters are. too. - in nyc, go outside the city line, on Long Island, Nassau and Suffolk county, you start to get Biden voters who voted for Zeldin over Hochl. Ditto north of the city, Westchester. It's not all lily white, lots of immigrants. It's the same in Milwaukee area, SE Wisconsin. Same in Virginia, close to D.C., etc. Big blue cities still very woke lefty within city lines
Shades of Bernie Bros - Video of Mayor Adams on Twitter warning being a sanctuary city is gonna get expensive, and of course the lefty defunders swarm in replies with all their usual arguments mostly how much you could save if you cut police way down (it's becoming clear they hate him, they really hate him - that he talks working class boro New Yawker doesn't help)

Detroit mother and sons try to save teen boy after shooting
When a Detroit woman heard gunshots, she ran outside to find a 14-year-old boy collapsed with a gunshot wound. She worked with her sons to try to save the boy, but he did not make it.
[....]"I told him, ‘Baby don’t run, let me help you,’" she said. "I was trying to see where he was wounded at, and I asked my son to get some towels, so I can put pressure on it."
As the family called 911, the woman kept working to try to keep the boy alive.
"I was like, ‘Don’t go to sleep baby, don’t go to sleep, just stay woke,’" she said. "He kept saying OK, and I said, ‘We’re getting help, it’s in the way. Just hold on.’"
Despite the best efforts of the woman and her two sons, the boy died.
"Once he stopped breathing, I tried CPR. He didn’t make it," she said.
The woman said her son recognized the boy.
"He went to school with my children. He used to come play at my house," she said. "That’s a good boy. That’s one of the kids that never be into the stuff."
She said she is saving the victim's shoe to give to his family.
Police are still trying to figure out what led to the shooting and who pulled the trigger. What they do know is that the shooting happened on Ferguson and ended on Biltmore after the boy ran about 100 yards and collapsed on the sidewalk.
"There’s no such thing as a snitching code. You know something, you see something, you tell it. You don’t hold that back because that could be you that somebody’s trying to save," said Detroit Police Capt. Brian Bowser [....]

Homicides of Children Soared in the Pandemic’s First Year
Killings of children and teenagers under 18 increased sharply in 2020, federal researchers reported. Black communities were disproportionately affected.
"As the pandemic spread across the United States in 2020, the number of children who were killed rose precipitously, as did the number injured by firearms, scientists reported in two studies on Monday."https://t.co/8vn8nxJYHO
Meanwhile educated whites were out protesting police supposedly killing Blacks in mass quantities and pulling statues of 'colonizers".
How about this theory? Police were disgusted for being blamed for criminal dysfunction of 'Black communities' via mass hysterical reaction to one frigging video. While they are supposed to be working DURING A PANDEMIC while mostly everyone else gets to stay home, that they just stopped rushing to those 911 calls from 'Black communities', see how well the 'community' takes care of it like the protesters claimed they could. Why would you care about that guy threatening his son with a gun or a knife if the result is more blame and outright hatred? Don't give a flying fuck, go ahead and kill your kids, wife, whatever, you don't want me there, ok, gotcha
So police can get disgusted, but blacks can't get disgusted about death chokeholds, whipping a suspect around in the back of a van, or like I'm Chicago locking numerous suspects up in an anonymous building for days.
I know the public response especially among blacks was often counterproductive, but the police also blocked reforms for a long long time - even when cops found to do horrid shit, unions made sure they didn't face punishment.
Few things are simple. Stopping police corruption is part of enforcing. But can't have a good public marketing outreach if you let cops shit on the floor or the customer, sorry to say. you want people to respect you, you can't kill off all respect, even while having to still deal with actual criminals and street toughs... What was the article the other day - mixed couple in Tennessee had a year of harassment before someone burned their house down, yet neither police nor insurance investigated. The jogger Arbery(so?) the cops were going to drop the investigation. Yes, it's ironic whites protesting while blacks are going "shush, it'll just get worse". But hey, GOP is more worried about kneeling for the anthem than people attacking the Capitol - shit just isn't going to make sense, that's just the way it is. Will look for *some* balance.
If you have mass protests against police that illogically and hysterically tar them all with the action of one during a pandemic, yet, and say or at least imply they are systemically racist, and make them police those protests to boot, it's a no brainer that good people are going to leave policing and it will increasingly be an occupation that good people will not chose.
I totally stand by my belief that the 2020 anti-police 'Black Lives Matter" protests were some of the most counterproductive of all times. In so many ways, including black lives mattering. Those protests had virtually no redeeming quality, and many negative effects, and yes, including the peaceful ones.
Noah's statement isn't even true for Black American adults. In 2020, the suicide rate for Black Americans was 7.7 per 100k. The homicide rate for black Americans was 30.7 per 100k in 2020.
White people harassing other white people even in the name of BLM I think isn't the strongest line. Rather, soft on crime harms the victims of crime and allows greater criminality. I would assume that a line tracking other types of crime follow similar trends.
the message was basically was: let's throw out rule of law, cause it's real unfair racially, go ahead and committ crimes, nobody is going to dare stop you, especially not police nor whites

People get hung up on the actual funding as well, but that's not the important part. The important part is knowing that city leadership views their police as expendable props for their campaigns, not employees who deserve fair treatment.
just a reminder of one of those 'peaceful' Geo. Floyd protests in Minneapolis -
Liberal mayor Jacob Frey actually did nothing wrong, they just wanted to dis all authority. (Some of them probably spent the next few days tearing down statues they didn't like.) Keisha Lance Bottoms of Atlanta had a far tougher reaction down the line a bit. (Even defending against the attempted destruction of the 'imperialist' CNN logo sign, if I remmber correctly.) As noted in the tweet in the above comment, the Minneapolis city council pandered to these stupid student-age protesters, and later rued that they did so, as did the normies who actually pay the taxes and their salaries. Too late, though, if you were looking to be a police officer, why would you trust them? They blow with the wind, chicken, didn't want to end up like Mayor Frey.

Perhaps you'll stay with me for this thread. I was a social worker for several years before I became a cop and worked with homeless teens and adults. I know many homeless folks come from lives of neglect and abuse I cannot fathom. That they struggle with substance abuse and (1/4)
mental illness. But that doesn't make them some monolithic group of eternal victims. In the cities I've policed, many homeless commit a shitload of crimes. I don't say this based on theory or conjecture. It's based on my own observations and arrests as well as those of my (2/4)
colleagues. The bulk of our arrestees are transient. At some basic level, it boils down to the Haves and the Have Nots. The latter take from the former. If you want a seat at the adult table in a conversation about homelessness, you'd do well to understand this. It's (3/4)
not demonizing the homeless to make this point. It's just looking at the problem clearly. It's dealing with facts. And facts, as my father likes to say, are stubborn things. (4/4)

More than 6,000 children have been killed or injured in the United States by gunfire in 2022, the most ever recorded in the nine-year history of a nonprofit that tracks shooting incidents.
With five days to go in the year, the Gun Violence Archive found that 6,023 U.S. children 17 years old or younger have been killed or hurt in gunfire this year, surpassing the 5,708 killed or hurt 2021.
the Gun Violence Archive said it was the most children to die or be injured by gunfire in a single year since it started keeping track in 2014.
At least 306 children 11 years old or younger have been killed by gunfire in 2022, according to the website. Another 1,323 children between the ages of 12 and 17 died in shootings, according to the website.
In the first year the Gun Violence Archive began to track shootings in 2014, it recorded 2,859 children 17 years old or younger killed or injured by gunfire.

PP brought up the topic of how the crime wave happened. I think this article does an excellent job of ilustrating how bail reform and sympathy for criminals of minority populations helped it along mightily, using one case as a starting point (though it's in the Examiner, don't dismiss it, it's very well done, clear that the reporter has done her homework and it is quite free of agitprop):
"How long would Portland keep falling for the upside-down world? How long before it became clear people must extend a significantly larger amount of empathy to people like Rachael rather than people like her murderer?" New from me. Please share x https://t.co/UZCptRZApM
Though I gotta say: if you're going to be outraged about something, this is definitely one thing! These people really should not be let out on the streets when they show total disregard for the system, doing things that the court explicitly told them they couldn't do, or things like cutting off an electronic monitor! What's going on with repeat offenders really is an outrage! If you want to advocate for more timely trials, that's fine, but bail reform has been a complete total failure! Low paid public defenders clearly milk that, my question is: how can they sleep at night? If I had my druthers, I would outlaw organizations like the abolitionist one in the article, funding bail for people who then go out and murder and then acting like they had nothing to do with it. Or how about making them take those out on bail into their very own homes, see how they do at practicing what they are preaching?
If the mayor’s office holds this data, why isn’t he doing constant pressers about it and announcing emergency ordinances left and right to deal with it? This is horrific. https://t.co/tnJ8LofpPq

I remember hearing celebratory gun fire, as a kid, living in Addis Ababa, to commemorate the downfall of the Derg. I was scared because it sounded like a shoot out until my Dad told me they were celebrating.
if one can't see the way to encourage civilized behavior in public is to prosecute such perps harshly, as if intending murder, than you are hopeless. Fistfights are not entertainment events provided for you to video and post on social media so you can grow your audience of rooters for one side or another. You either want civilized behavior in cities or you want to go back to "only the strong survive." Yeah cops are often assholes, they often have to be. More people need to see the deterrent effect of serious repercussions for acting out this way.
NYC voters don't want your 'humorous' late night Waffle House riots, if you keep advertising them on social media, no decent person will chose to eat there when visiting. And then gun slayings are always "what was she wearing?" never quite innocent even if sitting in your own room, "why'd you live in *that* part of town anyway?" It's all ugly.
I never said police abuse was only towards blacks, only that they got a disproportionate share & that police had a major PR problem that they should clean up. Some are trying, I know, but I can't figure out how something like this subway rider incident escalates so badly - and where's the effort to stop the overreacting cop, more, what are the procedures? So I'm not overreacting, what's the approximate incident rate for severely unwarranted police response to non-threatening situations? (not that all will be reported, and largely only the ones on video go viral and get known).
Mho, M.D.'s have a worse record of damaging people's lives. And lordy if you have to be in a hospital for any length of time, you are in great danger. (Chances there are also much higher if you're low income/low education and live in a shitty neighborhood. Especially if you don't have anyone watching what's going on, be very afraid of being a hospital inpateint.)
The few whole police departments which are corrupt from the top down are investigated and punished by the D.O.J. since Serpico. Wish they went against hospitals with equal fervor.
Yes it's a P.R. problem. I'd go much further and say it's disinfo or misinto. It's irrational fear of authority to focus on the outliers. Even moreso with the advent of ubiquitous cellphone video and bodycams.
It's very simple: it's vastly more probable that you'll be harmed by crime than a police officer. With the NYPD the uniformed force alone is 35,000!
But its not so easy to fight against perceptions that ACAB from a year of hysteria mass demonstrations over a few cellphone videos of abuse, constant drumbeat against the whole idea of police. Maybe in a an era with ubiquitous handhead cellphone video, they shouldl all get rid of uniforms and go plainclothes - the FBI does - then you'd go back to only paranoid extremist libertarians freaking out. Certainly the dreams of abolitionists are not being proven correct as far as civilians filming crimes reducing crime.
This focus on police is voodoo delusion blaming a symbol of authority for all that is troubled in society When in actuality, they are the only thing that stands up for civilization and the rule of law against the law of the jungle.
Think Jan. 6. What percentage of those cops were being abusive?
Lay down with Ashley Babbit victimhood, get up with fleas at minimum, probably much worse.

Yeah, the ACAB bias was allover the place as it was just after 2020 anti-police protests, and all the attendant media bias for, most of that year. This syndrome was even prominent on Dagblog on Jan. 6 as I was trying to basically live blog what was happening. Especially because a lot of the better videos and photos of what really was happening didn't start to appear for days or weeks after, people would seize on any image that might confirm in even a small way their ACAB bias.
(In 2020 it was like: don't dare publish any positive news having to do with police, and downplay and coverup any riots or looting in preference for negative stories about them - in a way I could see that the national MSM.seemed to feel that buying into anything positive about police was giving unfair advantage to Trumpism somehow. So national seemed eager to publish anything good they could find about the protest and protesters, and all the horrible stuff going on via mobs was left to local sources and social media to cover - causing a greater rift than before between "elites" and "normies", not even agreeing on basic information about what was happening. Seemed to begin to turn only around the Rittenhouse/Kenosha thing as reports got more into detail and nuance.)
....People accused of viewing the streams were warned in the notice served by police that they risk fines or even imprisonment if found guilty of breaking the law.....
“Often illegal streaming is used to fund serious organised crime and West Mercia Cybercrime Unit is committed to interdicting this source of criminal revenue and reducing the harm organised crime groups can do to our communities.”...

Who is asking for these light sentences/easy release?
I understand Lightfoot is a mess, as is the SF City Council head that pushes stupid shit thru despite the mayor, but other cities - why does sane "lock up dangerous or shown repeat offenders" get undermined so much? Does lightening one's workload by getting bad publicity really even help him at all, or it's just a BS excuse for another motive?

A reminder that Hochl's re-election was suprisingly close, even though her opponent was a start raving anti-abortion nut, he ran mostly on crime and taxpayers were fed up with soft on crime BLM-influenced state goverment:
Bragg is still working the BLM playbook, btw:

Homicides of Children Soared in the Pandemic’s First Year
Killings of children and teenagers under 18 increased sharply in 2020, federal researchers reported. Black communities were disproportionately affected.
Don't give a flying fuck, go ahead and kill your kids, wife, whatever, you don't want me there, ok, gotcha
by artappraiser on Wed, 12/21/2022 - 12:00am
Will look for *some* balance.
by PeraclesPlease on Thu, 12/22/2022 - 3:57am
If you have mass protests against police that illogically and hysterically tar them all with the action of one during a pandemic, yet, and say or at least imply they are systemically racist, and make them police those protests to boot, it's a no brainer that good people are going to leave policing and it will increasingly be an occupation that good people will not chose.
I totally stand by my belief that the 2020 anti-police 'Black Lives Matter" protests were some of the most counterproductive of all times. In so many ways, including black lives mattering. Those protests had virtually no redeeming quality, and many negative effects, and yes, including the peaceful ones.

just a reminder of one of those 'peaceful' Geo.

Or how about making them take those out on bail into their very own homes, see how they do at practicing what they are preaching?

if one can't see the way to encourage civilized behavior in public is to prosecute such perps harshly, as if intending murder, than you are hopeless.
Does "ghetto" culcha get that? Want to stay a part of a poor, groveling underclass forever or move on up and hang with the civilized people? Your choice.

Original A/B test for white vs black open-carrying:
by PeraclesPlease on Thu, 01/05/2023 - 4:29am
It's gonna happen. They are outliers.
