Lost on abortion politics, Republicans struggle for a solution
The GOP is so divided over abortion politics that even top Mitch McConnell allies — who could succeed him as Senate leader — have opposing ideas on how to approach it.https://t.co/gBi9dFuIp7

What MTG did at the hearing today when she sanctioned by the Republican chair for her insane words to a witness and a fellow member. I posted the whole exchange below. All kidding about MTG aside. This woman seems to have a major mental problem. No one is as rude and insulting to… pic.twitter.com/Vw738XwU6g
The Politico article on the Florida GOP on which TPM elaborates:
"Many Republicans...have seen their own priority bills get waylaid or slowed down to help him. They have chafed at orders coming from...the governor’s office."
House Republicans’ plan to raise the debt limit would block President Biden’s signature student debt cancellation program and take a hammer to his administration’s other student loan policies.https://t.co/HzCaMHbTG2
DeSantis' efforts to take on NYT v Sullivan and mainstream media by overhauling defamation law in Florida have fallen short — a rare legislative defeat for a governor used to getting his way. Opposition came from conservative media. https://t.co/D3mOwAx3RS
In an interview with CNN’s @mkraju, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says he’s not confident that Republicans will take back the Senate majority in 2024.
“We do have the possibility of screwing this up and that gets back to candidate recruitment,” McConnell said. pic.twitter.com/fgc2kosk6U
We must defeat the Soros-Funded DAs, stop the Left's pro-criminal agenda, and take back the streets for law abiding citizens. We stand with Good Samaritans like Daniel Penny. Let’s show this Marine... America’s got his back. https://t.co/uQXZuT19Mo
Sigh, while a multi-arrest homeless guy who punches old ladies in the face prolly isn't the martyr to stand behind, a guy who went too far in tackling that guy and killed him accidentally but unnecessarily shouldn't be a hero either. Why can't people just leave it for what it is - a shitty unfortunate events on the subway, not a fairly clear defining Bernard Goetz moment.
Because Desantis wants to promote the vigilante ethos where there's "stand your ground" laws and mass gun ownership. And leftie activisists help by continually pushing "A.C.A.B." And there the twain meets. Normies who just want civilization and policiing are stuck in the middle. The Daniel Perry v. Jordan Neely story is the perfect metaphor for both narratives.
Could just as well ask: why wouldn't lefties leave the George Floyd story alone and let the legal system do its thing?Because: the video. Protesters wanted vigilante 'justice'. With Daniel Perry you have: the photographs.
We didn't need any Daniel Perry's (nor Bernhard Goetz's) during the Bloomberg years, the subway system was civilized. I honestly don't know where he put the homeless crazies, but they weren't on the subway.
If you don't support policing, you got nothing. Security is #1 consideration.
Righties like Desantis talk the talk of supporting police but in reality they would prefer to 'defund' as much as possible and have more vigilantism, in order to lower taxes as much as possible. Lefties who protest against policing either don't get it or are anarchists who likewise want less government Government, rule of law and the policing you need to insure it are what you should be for. You are either on board with that or you're with the libertarians and anarchists, where yes, everyone who doesn't believe the fairly tale that everyone is basically good, should have a gun.
Republicans have rallied in support of Daniel Penny, who is facing second-degree manslaughter charges.
@ Politico.com, May 15
And if you supported most Geo. Floyd protests in 2020, they are just giving back the same. What did protestors expect was going to happen? Doh.
.
That's without even getting into the whole "lynching" meme that the left is jumping on, they immediately think "inject race" that will help rile things up. (Any lessons from Trump support during his "reign', mho #1 should be: inject race into it and you are gonna lose, a lot of important voters are gonna go with the other guys.)
Trump Vows to Bring Michael Flynn Back in 2024 if He Wins: ‘He’s Some General’
Democrats: Ignore the billboard-sized, neon-red warning signs and keep promoting irreversible surgeries for kids, allowing biological men in women's spaces, and racializing every aspect of American culture, and see what happens in 2024.#DonaldTrumphttps://t.co/eFOkE1rgEd
When a guy from the American Enterprise Institute says this, you know it's simply truth to say that McCarthy has sold out America to a merry band of extremists who just want to see everything burn to the ground. https://t.co/mi6SaGuhRu
NEWS w/ @CatieEdmondson -- WH and GOP closing in on the debt-limit deal. Contours:
2 yr debt limit hike
2 yr spending caps
FY24 Biden budget levels for vets/defense
Cut from FY23 levels for NDD, but ... accounting moves... move like flat from 23
AND MOREhttps://t.co/zYTy98Aqr3
Of course, fundraising numbers are not predictive of presidential primary success. (Remember another FL governor who boasted about the big $ he was raising against Trump?)
But still very notable numbers for DeSantis after a much-mocked launch
Ken Paxton drew support from Donald Trump and Ted Cruz prior to the vote
Associated Press,Sat 27 May 2023 19.15 EDT
Texas’ Republican-led House of Representatives impeached state attorney general Ken Paxton on Saturday on articles including bribery and abuse of public trust, a historic rebuke of a GOP official who rose to be a star of the conservative legal movement despite years of scandal and alleged crimes.
Impeachment triggers Paxton’s immediate suspension from office pending the outcome of a trial in the state Senate and empowers Republican governor Greg Abbott to appoint someone else as Texas’ top lawyer in the interim.
The 121-23 vote constitutes an abrupt downfall for one of the Republican party’s most prominent legal combatants, who in 2020 asked the US supreme court to overturn president Joe Biden’s electoral defeat of Donald Trump. It makes Paxton only the third sitting official in Texas’ nearly 200-year history to have been impeached [....]
And fwiw, I think Democratic partisan activists pay too much attention to those 69 GOP House members, as if they represent all national GOP, TOTHEIR OWN DETRIMENT. (Likewise, GOP partisans play up the wokee antics of many of those 43 Dems, but they do it with less detriment.)
As an infamous bully credited with ruining Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-Fla.) presidential chances in 2016, Christie has the verbal skills and chutzpah that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis lacks to attack Trump in ways that could do real damage.https://t.co/wF4G50E74k
NewsNation went to The Villages in Florida and found that most people…like both Trump and DeSantis. The bitter infighting is mostly an online thing: https://t.co/lu43azX1U7
Just from this clip, I think he did a good job in a hostile room. (They weren't being mean, just deeply skeptical.) Still not going to vote for him, but he seems like a guy I could respect as president. (Obviously, I'd need to see a lot more! It's just one clip!) https://t.co/JjjzY1vTXC
