Biden Transition Team: Calm in Public Feverish Work In Background

Joe Biden’s transition team has tried to project calm as President Donald Trump refuses to concede and many Republicans — and even one key part of the federal government — continue to have his back.

But behind the scenes, Biden’s advisers are in the midst of a fierce lobbying blitz to get Trump’s allies to crack. They're dispatching emissaries from past administrations — Republican and Democrat — along with a wide array of business and interest group leaders to intercede on Biden’s behalf. According to three transition officials, Biden's team is in talks with multiple Republican leaders and officeholders to end the transition stalemate, warning them of risks to national security and public health if the president-elect isn’t granted access to the government.

Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris are also deploying aides and allies to ramp up public pressure on General Services Administrator Emily Murphy, who has refused to acknowledge Biden’s victory and thus allow the transition to officially begin. And Biden’s roster of medical experts is making the rounds on cable TV to argue that the transition needs to get underway now for the country to distribute Covid-19 vaccines to hundreds of millions of Americans quickly next year.

Democratic congressional leaders have joined in, too, criticizing Murphy for holding up the transition.

MIAMI—On Wednesday night, Alberto Delgado strolled onto the stage of Alpha & Omega, the Miami-area Evangelical megachurch where he serves as senior pastor, and promised nearly 200 MAGA diehards that Donald Trump would serve another term as president.

Despite an avalanche of court rulings rejecting Trump’s fact-free claims of voter fraud, Delgado—a snow-haired, natty-dressed preacher with a baritone voice who serves as a religious adviser to Trump—assured his flock that the fight for the White House was just getting started.

"God can do great things for Donald Trump if you believe," Delgado said in Spanish. “Trump is the man God has chosen for these times. This is why I am telling you we have not lost.”

The crowd, most of them sitting side-by-side in the first six rows but all wearing masks, burst into applause. Two women near the back unfurled Trump flags as a man next to them shouted, “Four more years! Four more years!”

After the audience collectively recited the pledge of allegiance and sang the national anthem, an olive-skinned woman in a black blouse and black jeans named Maria Martinez bowed her head and closed her eyes. Her husband, Ariel Martinez, stood at her side. “We recognize that we need you, Father, to intervene in favor of our nation,” Maria said in Spanish. “That you protect our President Trump.”

“We ask you, Father, to use your powers during these investigations and amid this fraud that is being attempted by these evildoers who want to destroy our nation, destroy our faith and to remove you from your throne.”

Maria then asked the Lord to do what the president’s legal team has failed to do—and somehow prevent Democrat Joe Biden from taking the Oath of Office on Jan. 20.

“We ask you, Father, to use your powers during these investigations and amid this fraud that is being attempted by these evildoers who want to destroy our nation, destroy our faith and to remove you from your throne,” Maria said. “That is what Marxism is all about, like the organization called Black Lives Matter... So I ask you, my Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, that you block the malevolent plans to rob him of the presidency.”

The pro-Trump prayer vigil provided fresh evidence of just how potent MAGA doctrine remains in Florida, a state where Biden and a slew of House Democrats lost, Trump acolyte Gov. Ron DeSantis is still in charge, and COVID-19 trutherism remains in vogue. In fact, the scene painted a grim picture of how a disinformation-laden future could be inescapable in the Sunshine State, no matter what Biden attempts nationally once he’s sworn in.

Trump's Wall of Enablers are letting the clock run out, waiting for Trump to face reality. Any of them who stops applauding will incur Trump's wrath, so like Stalinist apparatchiks, they play along with his megalomaniac schemes.

With Trump's invitation to Michigan legislators to come conspire with him to overturn the election in Michigan, which Biden won by 158,000 votes, and with Trump stewing for 2 weeks in the White House (sans 3-4 days golfing locally) it seems he actually believes he can yet game a win and a second term. He's turning out to be a real winner with tons of experience and savvy at navigating political impasses.

P.S. I dislike partisanship, but I would like to point out this incongruity for someone who claims to be a Democratic partisan. It's really counterproductive to be constantly hunting for news that can be spun to "woe is us", and emphasize chicken-little-sky-is-falling-Trump-and-his-supporters-are-going-to-be-the-death-of-us-all. It's not the behavior of a partisan, it's the behavior of an enemy propagandist trying to hurt the morale of the troops.

Bipartisan Maricopa County board votes unanimously to certify election results

In a unanimous decision, the five-member Maricopa County Board of Supervisors — four of whom are Republicans — voted on Friday to certify its election results, another blow to Trump’s efforts to undermine Biden’s win with baseless allegations of widespread voter fraud.

The special meeting, live-streamed to the public, had none of the partisan rancor that had plagued a similar board meeting in Wayne County, Mich., earlier in the week. Instead, for nearly three hours, supervisors representing Arizona’s largest county questioned elections officials in painstaking detail about how votes had been cast and tabulated, an effort to show transparency and that the process had been airtight.

Board Chairman Clint Hickman (R) noted his own office had received 180 letters, 4,000 emails and nearly 3,000 voice mails about the election.

“I continue to hear from government leaders and the public about the integrity of Maricopa County elections,” Hickman said. “I have listened to and considered all theories about what might have happened. Let me be clear: There is no evidence of fraud or misconduct or malfunction in Maricopa County, and that is with a big zero.”

Other Republican supervisors — Bill Gates, Steve Chucri and Jack Sellers — vouched for the integrity of the process and praised their work as a model for bipartisanship. The board’s lone Democratic supervisor, Steve Gallardo, said it was one of the most important votes they would undertake, to protect “the will of the voters.”

Hickman closed out the meeting with a veiled but pointed message for those, including Arizona GOP Chairwoman Kelli Ward, who were continuing to allege widespread voter fraud.

“I have learned a lot about the character of people in this community regarding this matter. I’ve been disheartened by individuals using this time to find relevancy or fundraise off this issue,” he said. “It’s time to dial back the rhetoric, conspiracies and false claims.”
