The issue with El Salvador is what Bukele is doing is a short-term fix that doesn't get to the root problems and is bound to backfire along with being against civil rights and human rights.

I spent ~20 months in Haiti after the 2010 Earthquake. Even back then, people were saying that there was too much lawlessness and wanted a return of a strongman leader to stamp out crime. Some were looking back on Duvalier and said at least you could walk the streets
