with this story, time for a new thread on topic, I think; the earlier 25th amendment & related talk was posted starting here on the thread "Republicans abandon Trump" and on Pence's troubles Weds and related here.

full secondary headline: White House Counsel Pat Cipollone is reportedly warning West Wing staffers to avoid Trump for legal reasons, and even Stephen Miller thought Wednesday was atrocious. Will Mike Pence bring out the big guns?

Poor Pence, probably just taking a shower.

Appears to be a deadline on the 25th Amendment choice: Impeachment ready to go Monday if Pence doesn't do it:
Hence, the urgency of the phone call.

*This* is shocking - who is "they"? Why would they refuse a call from heads of 2 chambers of Congress during a crisis? Would they put Putin on hold for 25 minutes? Treasonous idiocy.

Benjamin Wittes on prosecuting him on sedition. George Conway concurs. (If that's not enough, a reminder! The top of this thread has the White House Counsel telling staff it may be sedition! Is that a slam dunk or what!?)

Rep Clyburn points out that there is not enough time for Impeachment to pull Trump out of office.
We need the 25th amendment to happen now. Clyburn says the cabinet heads who are resigning "in protest" are shirking their duty by leaving without doing that.

Impeachment may invalidate pardons

An interesting possibility.
If he was pulled out immediately, he wouldn't be able to give out anymore. On the other hand, if he had the good sense the Lord gave to turnips, he would resign in exchange for pardons from President Pence.

Pence has no good reason to pardon him.
Aside from a weird "Acting Prez for 10 days" Roger Maris-like asterisk, Pence gets little in taking over Trump's shitshow
(tho could do it for the country, if that's not too cliché)

Thelma changes her mind at the last moment and struggles to open the damn door.
Not much for him in the game either way.

Don & Rudy's Excellent Adventure will not be interrupted by Mike's Anthony Perkins impersonation. [curious, is Rudy Thelma or Louise? Also, does Don know how to drive a car, not that stomping the gas pedal next to a canyon's edge requires driving school or a license] And as important trivia (sure, Jan) how much was Trump influenced by Dion?

I think Pence sees Trumps resignation as a lose, lose situation for himself. Pence wants to be President someday, but not today, not for just two weeks. He would be expected by Trump’s base to issue a pardon which he doesn't want to do. If he didn’t he would lose Trump’s base for 2024.
