Health insurance still flies as a campaign topic?
You'd think mismanaging a health crisis to 5-10 million infected, a few hundred thousand dead would kinda take away the healthcare mojo. I mean, what good's having decent job-funded healthcare when your whole block is trying to infect you?
by PeraclesPlease on Wed, 08/12/2020 - 10:10am
Not only that, tons of people are losing that employer funded health insurance along with their jobs.Lots of emergency sign-ups for Obamacare. And them that don't do the latter ASAP may be surprised at how little any version of gummint (state, local health, federal) is actually clearly picking up the tab for coronavirus related testing and related. Providers send bills to the patient whenever there's a question about who is going to pay and in the end, the patient is responsible for trying to get any other parties to pay for it.

Sanders was her candidate. Sanders lost to Biden. The tide turned in South Carolina. The base gave a strong message what direction they were taking.
As questionable as they are, I'll go with the available polls, rather than the Twitterverse.
by rmrd0000 on Sun, 08/16/2020 - 10:35pm
What don't you get about that I am talking about lefties? You are switching to talking about rank and file Dems. Lefties are left of the party faithful! That's why I called them lefties.
Sanders is being a good boy this time, he learned his lesson. Many of his followers are not.. Including her! You think I don't know who she is?! That's why I posted it!
The opposition (Trump campaign) is trying to paint Biden and Harris as lefties. People who are not crazy know they are not. The Democratic party is not all kumbaya. If it was, the lefties wouldn't be primarying centrists in liberal districts like you just crowed about winning elsewhere.
South Carolina turned the tide for Joe precisely because its voters are more traditional conservative Democrats.
Another clue: the majority of voters in presidential elections are independents.
And the Democratic party is not at all unified on policy. The unity only comes from the urgency "anybody but Trump." Even on little dagblog you have examples Jolly Roger will be holding his nose voting for Biden, and oceankat has already stated he will not.
by artappraiser on Sun, 08/16/2020 - 11:00pm
Nothing in the platform matters as far as policy. Biden will do as he will. The platform Is all signalling. Will it unite or be a suicide/expose vulnerabilities to the other side?,

It is depressing communicating with you.
You see everything that Liberals/Progressives do as harmful
If trans restrooms are defended, Progressives will destroy the Democrats
Don't talk about race, it will destroy the Democrats
Any crime committed anywhere hurts the Democrats
On and on and on.
You love throwing around the term Leftie
You are Debbie Downer, you will always see the negative
Democrats disagreeing is normal
Then they come together and vote
Hillary got three million more votes thanTrump
Now activists are making sure the vote gets out in the critical states
Despite the fact that Republicans are cheating and the Russians (Chinese, Iranians, etc.) are coming, I am still hopeful

I consider myself an old school liberal on domestic policy and a centrist on economics and foreign policy, what is now called a neo-liberal. These days that puts me in the center! I think Biden Harris is an excellent ticket. I loathe "progressives" and wokees trying to derail that because it's too conservative for them.
Furthermore I think it's a horrendous hysteria that caused a bunch of spoiled white kids of privilege around the world to decide it's more important now to fight police for months on end and destroy statues of old tyme "colonizers" when more people have died in this country from coronavius since March than from WWII much less Vietnam, and many more have permanent disability
and when gun-related violence has skyrocketed allover the place,
cities are dying,
and especiallly when this heartrending reality is going on to perhaps hundreds of thousands of people around this country:
Obsession with police abuse right now is not just absurd, but cruel to sufferers of so many other things with many many more victims. And appallinging illogical to me. Same for many "woke" concerns. Later maybe, not now. There's a worldwide pandemic going on and people have no income and many businesses have been destroyed. It's as bad or worse than the Great Depression what we are living through. To obsess over "progressive" concerns, especially the behavior of a minority of police, is as bad as any far right nut.
by artappraiser on Mon, 08/17/2020 - 12:27am
Interesting. I consider myself an old school liberal too, in all ways. The modern left has moved away from me and the center hasn't moved left enough for me to feel a part of it. I agree with so much of your post. But to then think Biden Harris is an excellent ticket is incomprehensible to me. As the best ticket to beat the hated Trump, maybe. But as an excellent ticket to deal with the "incredible urgencies allover the place." I think it's the worse ticket to do that.
by ocean-kat on Mon, 08/17/2020 - 1:12am
At the top you have to have people who work all sides of the fence. It's a big country! The red blue divide is ginned up by those who benefit from it but done with moderation instead of antagonism a majority can be formed about a lot of things, there's a lot of purple potential out there.. I think of how Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich made deals while Gingrich played the culture war game for the gullible. Or conversely, how Reagan played moderate and sensible for the gullible which allowed him to do radical stuff. Biden and Harris together bridge a lot of identity politics divides, that leaves real politics to get done in Congress with their assistance. They're good for the roles. People give too much attention to those roles, downticket is much more important, including state politics.
by artappraiser on Mon, 08/17/2020 - 1:58am
You are free to your opinion on police abuse. I think turning a blind eye is dangerous. Why does the NYPD Union back Trump? Trump takes away checks and balances on their action. You do not get to decide what angers others.
You use the term "Leftie" and "Woke" to dismiss people with a different opinion. An individual who was involved in Bernie's campaign says that the Biden/Harris ticket lets down the "base". This individual offers her opinion ignoring the fact that the "base" abandoned Sanders. She joins other people with access to Twitter who offer their opinions. You label them "Lefties" or "Wokies", or whatever. These individual s do not speak for all on the Left or all who consider themselves Woke. Your use of "Leftie" and "Woke" have no meaning. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren support Biden/Harris. Van Jones supports Biden/Harris. You need to hone your wording. You use the term as a bludgeon. The next time you use the term "Leftie" or "Woke", I'm going to imagine that you called someone a Gremlin or an Evil Genie because the way you use the terms carries the same meaning.
People are on the frontlines of COVID. The reason we are losing the battle is because of an incompetent President. Gremlins and Evil Genies are not why people are dying. Homicide rates are high at a time when the police are not trusted, we have a pandemic, and people have no income. Gremlins and Evil Genies did not create the spark, incompetence at the top created the spark.
Lack of police is not spreading COVID. Sending children back to school and college will cause deaths, not Gremlins and Evil Genies.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/08/17/coronavirus-covid-live-updates-us/
Cases were not due to a lack of police or the presence of Gremlins and Evil Genies.

That so called "fact" is contingent on how one defines the base of the democratic party. That's not at all clear or universally agreed upon. I think you define the base as the black people. That's a self serving and imo inaccurate definition of the democratic base.
by ocean-kat on Mon, 08/17/2020 - 1:34am
Let me be clear and put it this way: I don't think I ever disagreed with a single thing Obama ever said, can't think of one (I also always thought he and Hillary were alike as two politicians could be and didn't have a preference which won the primary. The only thing that bothered me about him was the fans who treated him as a celeb). I think you say things he would disagree with all the time. What's your excuse for being tribal instead of globalist and not being for a bipartisan attitude? Here he basically calls people who think like you do unrealistic and immature, I do as well

Good diversion
You use the terms "Leftie" and "Woke" as slurs. Yet, if a statement is made about "Trump voters", you come running out arguing "How dare you lump all those sweet people together". You set a double standard. Everyone who disagrees with you is "tribal". You use "Leftie" and "Woke" as. slurs, then in next breath talk about bipartisanship. I'm laughing. You are perfect. Others need to change.

Got a link to show me saying that?! hah, whenever you are in troubled waters you start arguing with some strawman who has never appeared on Dag. Not even nonny would describe them that way.
CLUE: "lefties" and "woke" not the same as "Democrats", just a faction of them. (And not a favored faction at the current convention, according to many complaints.)
Makes me realize that most of your discourse is deluded by a belief that it's all one big happy family on the left of the aisle. You really really believe in partisan warring. No grays for you, just black and white.
Watch that Obama statement. Or read Orwell. Try to understand what tolerance really means: not being intolerant like extreme lefties and extreme righties, like extremists are. That's why they call them extreme.

I think Kamala Harris would not support defunding that cop right now and I think that's good. There aren't enough talented social workers right now to handle all theof the citizens in this country. The goals of diehard progressives are PIE IN THE SKY right now. There are incredible urgencies allover the place. What to do about the police or the health insurance are the least of our problems right now much less statues of Columbus.
