Author Branko Marcetic is a Jacobin staff writer and the author of Yesterday's Man: The Case Against Joe Biden. He lives in Chicago, Illinois. He appears quite young having been hired at Jacobin from an internship, a 2019-2020 Leonard C. Goodman Institute for Investigative Reporting Fellow at In These Times. The article here is from April 7 (the invasion began February 24) so he is basically complaining in it about supposed revisionist positive western coverage of Azov for only one month at the start.
It seems almost like it was an assignment article from an editor to a newbie.
I would instead recommend looking at the citations of international coverage of the topic of Azov and Neo-Nazism at Wikipedia over time
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azov_Regiment#Neo-Nazism
including the recent opinions of experienced Jewish activists against anti-Semitism.
It is a controversial and complex topic not really suitable for coverage by a young "tankie" very early in the war unless you're into simplistic Jacobin agitprop.
All just mho.

Europe had a long period of peace from WW2 until now so, in the event of a Russian external threat, it shouldn't be a surprise that this sort of thing sees a resurgence. There is a state of Israel in our modern world too. They're likely not fans of Jews but see Russian expansion as a bigger priority.

I had some involvement with the Balkan Wars of the 90s. Azov group hasn't done fuckall compared to the atrocities there. Azov doesn't have*any* political power compared toe the fascists ascendant in Hungary (within the EU). The Turks, Russians and Syrians have done a good slaughter of people down in the Levant while Russia's building up it's port on the Mediterranean - a bit of a worry for the West. I don't recall Azov shooting down commercial planes or conducting rapes on civilians or torturing war captives as has been reported if other groups in the last 5 months. If the Israelis were carrying out peace talks/creative solutions for the Palestinians the past 22 years or so and instead only focused on repressive debilitating military attacks and sanctions/embargoes, i might be more concerned about a band of retro neanderthals with some objectionable insignias who don't seem to do much of anything outside of joining the Ukrainian resistance productively.
I've got a bit of a pimple on my butt that i sometimes have to scratch, which if it weren't for my lung cancer and profusely bleeding leg artery might bother me.
