WASHINGTON (Assacious Press) — With an eye to stressing his youth and easygoing temperament, aides to John McCain say the presumptive Republican nominee is strongly favoring former Sen. Bob Dole of Kansas as his vice-presidential running mate.
"If you want to take the edge off public perception of your age and grumpiness, hire an older hatchetman," said one former McCain campaign manager on condition of anonymity.
McCain, who turns 73 in August, has been criticized by elitist liberals for running a negative campaign, even though Barack Obama has played the race card. McCain is running even with his inexperienced and egotistical Democratic rival, Barack Obama, in several polls taken now and then in recent months.
Dole, who is 85, would be the oldest vice-presidential running mate in history if McCain continues his mavericky style by picking him.
