The Bishop and the Butterfly: Murder, Politics, and the End of the Jazz Age

The Dim Bulb of Foreign Policy

The McCain campaign's support for Sarah Palin's false credentials seeks to elevate another oil-centric view of defense and foreign policy to the White House. Not what we need. Yet both McCain and Palin now put forward their new argument that she is ready to be commander-in-chief because she chaired the Alaska Oil and Gas Commission for a year (before quitting). That's it? Aside from living somehwere near Siberia and giving no orders to the Alaska National Guard, that's her foreign policy expertise? Oil and gas regulation? Holding oil and gas that dear might very well get us into war unnecessarily, but it won't get us out of one with our skins still intact. John McCain and Sarah Palin want to run this country. With their foreign policy hinging on "Drill, baby, drill," they might very well run it. Farther into the ground than we can guess.
