Last year, Emily's List started the Rising Star Award to honor Gabby Gifford. This year it was presented to Ayanna Pressley as the second winner of this award. Retired Astronaut Mark Kelly, Gabby's husband with her presents the award. This was a chance to see how well she is doing since she left the House for me. I love her smile. What courage she has.
I chose to included this because Ayanna Pressley is a rising star in politics. She is the Councilor at Large for the City of Boston with very humble beginnings. In a fabulous speech she tells her story gracefully. If she speaks like this when on the campaign trail, I can see why she has succeeded against the odds.
This was the first time I have had the opportunity to see Kamala Harris speak. She is the Attorney General of California and she announces in this speech that she is running for Barbara Boxers seat in 2016. It is a great speech and I can see she will be formable in this race.
This is a NPR All Things Considered Report on Emily's List from last May. Now they end this broadcast with comparing the conservative equivalent Molly's List. Now that is a false equivalency because the group was not started until 2010 in Tallahassee. They only raised about $190,000 and only gave $29,000 to candidates.
Right now Emily's List is 3 million members strong with the potential of raising $600 million dollars for 2016. This growth in membership has come in the recent years. And the reason is ladies are not happy with current politics. If the Republicans keep up their stupid at the National level and the media keeps down playing Hillary, this group will continue to grow in leaps and bounds.
Part 3-Hillary Clinton.

Thank you for doing this series, momoe. You're doing a great job exploring an important, sometimes underappreciated group, and I look forward to the next installment.

Women are getting more involved in politics. We have many reasons why we have to now. This using our access to health care as a political football has brought many who can donate into the picture. The minimum of $200 isn't that much for a person who isn't strapped for money per election cycle. Things are not going to change unless we push for them.
Media spends their time talking with Koch sponsored organizations. that is directly funded by Koch. So these organizations and front groups for the Kochs are household names. But do people know anything about the Children's Defense Fund and what they do? Or have there been a close look at Common Core and the over testing of children. But we do hear about all the incompetent public schools and their teachers from Koch funded think tanks of old white guys. Most of them probably can't remember the birthdays of their own kids.

NPR interview isn't sticking in the text.

Wow, Ayanna Pressley is a force to be reckoned with! She reminds me of Michelle Obama. Emily's List deserves to get more attention, and with them we may just get somewhere. There are plenty of dedicated, articulate Liberal/Progressive women who could bring some major challenges to the Old White Men network, and they need all the help they can get.
This is a great series you're doing. I'm looking forward to the one on Hillary, too

Our media hasn't even scratched the surface as to what is going on politically. It is like we are not there. The burnt orange tee shirts haven't disappeared in Texas because Wendy Davis didn't win or the Dream Defenders still have their chapters in Florida. The Dream Defenders are working hard in Ferguson right now.
I was also impressed with Ms.Pressley.
