The past few days are rife with signals from the White House that President Obama may use his address to a joint session of Congress next Wednesday to reposition himself on health care reform--specifically, that he may drop his support for a Public Option entirely.
Regardless of whether reports such as
Rep. Paul Grijalva's concerns are accurate, it's clear that the president has left
his options open with regard to inclusion of the Public Option in a final bill. Weak support is no support at all in politics. Don't let him off the hook.
The Public Option is the heart and soul of health care reform, its engine of cost control and choice. It is so important to me that I sent a message to the president telling him that I would cease to campaign for him, his causes and any Democrat if he fails to strongly support it. I will not be triangulated away by a president I have worked so hard for.
Here again is the contact information for the White House. Please write it down and use it immediately, and every day, until Congress passes real health care reform.
