The Bishop and the Butterfly: Murder, Politics, and the End of the Jazz Age
MrSmith1's picture

haikus for a Friday afternoon in which no-one is paying attention because it's almost Thanksgiving

The week's batch:

(Sorry, no pictures this week.)

Rain evaporates,
the Autumn leaves decompose,
Snow melts. Life happens.

Hey! Stop nudging me!
I'll get up in a minute ...
Hit the snooze alarm.

When I'm all alone,
in my mind and in my heart,
you reverberate.

-----

double haiku: An Irish Setter,
gallops through Riverside Park,
greeting each toddler.

His owner just laughs,
reassuring the nannys,
the dog is friendly.

-----

double haiku: She steps off the bus,
And his heart begins to pound,
he's missed her so much.

The drab bus station's,
soon illuminated by,
the glow of their love.

-----

At the twin's law firm,
a pair of para-legals?
Double jeopardy.

She entered, wearing
a sweatshirt and dungarees.
Which left him breathless.

Dispositions change.
Mindsets frequently evolve.
Never close a door.

-----

double haiku: Dear Monday morning,
I am not ready for you,
come back tomorrow.

I know what I said,
But hey, "Come back tomorrow ..."
does not mean today.

-----

Waiting for the dawn,
I lie in somber darkness,
replaying the past.

tanka haiku: She eats lunch alone.
she's got tattoos and weird hair.
And dreams of Elvis.
  She seems unremarkable,
until you get to know her.

Ev'rything's simple.
Ev'rything's also profound.
Don't over-think things.

Lunch with an old friend;
laughter at shared history,
hope for tomorrow.

Bad dress rehearsals
don't always bode well. Sometimes
the play's a stinker.

-----

Double haiku:  Elegant gestures,
are sometimes ways of smoothing
indelicate actions.

(Giving 'middle fingers'
are not elegant gestures,
 ... and seldom polite.)

-----

To friends, be loyal,
to enemies, forgiving ...
Siblings? Persevere.

Talking politics
has become, (it's sad to say),
'screw you, you're a jerk.'

A mild sedative,
is for folks that are afraid
of offending pain.

================

I'm not sure if I'll have internet access next Friday, if not, I'll post a double portion the following Friday.

Happy Thanksgiving.

A used wing back chair

But the fabric is all wrong

Don't over-think things.

Good one!

Found on the street; a
wing-back chair (ugly fabric),
I think I'll take it.

I like that!

Saw in the alley

Neighbor's ugly wing back chair

Wait til after dark

Bored out of my mind
Made Loaded Potato Soup
My new stove rocks hard

Politics bores some
Politics inflames the rest
Twelve steps for them all

My body feels pain
I worked out in wind and rain
My fingers are numb

Good ones, tmc!

This kitchen's too small

Made loaded potato soup

Let's shoot out one wall.

Wonderful tmc!

Loaded potatoes
Are so drunk they're vegetables?
12 steps and they're mashed.

Health is health, pain, pain,
working out in wind and rain,
blurs the distinction.

My Anchorage home;
where hard rocks in my new stove,
mean Baked Alaska.

Gonna see loved ones

On Turkey Day with no access

See you all later

hahahahaha

Ha! Good one, DD.

Turkey Day access,
means who gets the white meat and
who's stuck with giblets.
