The Bishop and the Butterfly: Murder, Politics, and the End of the Jazz Age

A Re-opened BiPartisan Friday Afternoon at the Haikulodeon

Here's this week's heap of haikus:

There's a large dumpster
right in front of my building
I should clean my room.

---

On the isles of Shoals
in an old seaside garden,
begonias still bloom.

---

Skeleton women
prance about on tippy-toes ...
bony tours jete.

---

Sometimes reflections
will clearly show that our lives
may be upside down.

---

Please prioritize;
carts go before horses and
socks on before shoes.

---

Lazy sunlight drifts,
through the parted lace curtains,
of the drawing room.

---

At Suzie's front door,
boys stammer and hesitate,
... then try for a kiss.

---

Even though he'd won,
his thoughts remained fixated,
on all he had lost.

---

What's more delicious,
a strawberry milk shake, or
a hot apple pie?

---

By a waterfall,
The lovers had a picnic.
Ev'rything got wet.

---

Know this, my sweet child,
precious are the memories,
that some day you'll have.

---

Torn between lovers,
he was not sure what to do,
then, he beheld her...

---

haiku trio:

tabula rasa;
hard times and great adventures
fill Life's lesson plans.

hitting reset may
wipe the slate completely clean,
but it's still a slate.

What we come to know ...
All are created equal
then, we choose to learn.

---

Societal ills;
Do you blame those above or
those that are below?

---

Politi-kus:

Tea Party Health Care;
Don't take away my gun, 'cuz
I need a flu shot.

---

Tea Party Death Wish;
Who knew that holding your breath
would turn Congress blue?

---

fingers crossed-ku: Crazy over-ruled ...
Saner heads prevailed. They will
shut down the shut-down.

-

Done. Like unicorns
seen in the halls of Congress
t'was a bit unreal.

----

There is Old Glory ...
atop yonder hill, it waves.
Freedom shall endure.

---

An old weathered rope,
hangs 'round a lonely fence-post.
Purpose forgotten.

---

While falling asleep,
whispers and memories swirl
through my consciousness ...

---

A quintet of haikus:

Under a pale sky,
a man in a hat, sits and
reads his newspaper.

As the daylight ebbs,
the man folds the newspaper,
gets up, and goes home.

In the dark of night,
he lies in bed and ponders
all that he has learned ...

and when he awakes,
he gets up, finds his hat and
grabs his newspaper.

The mind's the engine,
that drives our train of thought. We
must keep feeding it.

---

The billowing sails,
The churning, white-capped waters,
grey skies at ebb tide.

---

All the king's horses,
And all the king's men, liked their
egg over easy.

---

Autumn in New York,
leaves crackle underfoot as
I stroll through the park.

---

Moon behind the clouds,
fields aglow in bluish light,
while foxes prowl.

---

All things pass away
And all relationships change
We are in motion.

---

She had placed her hand,
gently on his shoulder, when
he broke down and sobbed.

---

Piles of raked leaves,
in my yard. Should I jump? The
kid in me says, "Yes!"

---

tanka haiku:  Ya remember when
Boy Scout leaders simply
molested young boys?

Now they help them to see that
nature's wonders are finite.

Great collection, Smith. Love the illustrated ones.

Bonds Hike You:

Bonds go down or up

Interest goes up or down

Portfolios, eh?

Socks will hike you up

Skirts drop after wind dies down

Maybe real estate.

Good ones, Oxy!

He hikes his socks up,
she pulls his pants down... In Life,
things will even out.

When hemlines go up,
economies boom. When they
go down, sell, sell, sell!

OCD LOVER

He folded his pants,

Socks arranged in the hamper;

Hey, where'd that girl go?

This one made me laugh out loud.  Nicely done, Oxy!

There are all these sounds

Outside of my residence

I kept thinking rain?

No, no rain at all

But there is this strange vortex?

Just dead leaves moving

Just dead leaves moving

As the wind motivates them

No animation

Although, what is 'live'?

I waited till four PM

To walk outside me

And into the world

I crept although I used to

Leap into that world

So God was angry

And He shed his ire at me

Rain, hail, snow and sleet

I was so punished

By the God's ire that I

Quickly returned home

Why is God so mad?

What have I ever done to

Ire a God thus far?

THE END

Oh I still love your pix and your idea for your new art!

The real end. hahahah

I give you your own award of the day, Day. I really like that sequence a lot. Really.

I agree with Oxy.  Nice work, DD!   Award yourself.

Oxy, you can be pretty damn nice sometimes! ha

My tiny backyard

has become a patio

no mowing for me.

I really enjoyed this.  Thanks everyone.

Just got to these today.  A great way to unwind after a week's worth of crazy.  Loved them all.

You're all so damned clever.
