A Sunny and Mild Friday Afternoon at the Haikulodeon

Here's this week's heap of haikus:

tanka haiku: On Omaha Beach,
the allied forces changed the
world as we know it.

Looking back 70 years,
what was done there still awes us.

---

a tanka haiku warning:

Don't wear pink spandex
on your Summer vacation,
it will cause riots.

Cops will come, then you'll get 'pinched',
and do a stretch in prison.

---

The more I focus
on subtle details, the more
I'm drawn into Life.

Triangular lots
led to Flatiron buildings,
Twenty-three Skidoo!

Samuel Halpert (American, 1884–1930) - The Flatiron Building - 1919

---

Resolve by any
other name is stubbornness.
I'm full of resolve.

Mad dogs and English
muffins can get badly burnt
by mid-day 'Sunbeams.'

---

Swirling embers rise,
riding a smoky breeze, then
die, and fall to earth

---

A downtown cafe …
lovers cuddle in a booth,
sharing fajitas.

---

To remember love
is to journey through the soul
and restore the heart.

---

A tall glass of juice,
is no substitute for a
big mug of coffee.

---

A dark, grey morning
Serious people crowd me
I can’t help but laugh.

---

Locked in a body
that can no longer run, he
decides he'll just walk.

---

We laughed ’til we hurt,
for we’d stumbled upon, a
universal truth.

---

A sincere heart is,
more likely to change the world,
than a reasoned thought.

---

When daffodils bloom,
near the edge of one’s garden,
passers-by may pluck.

 ---

As she walked away,
I brought my hands to my face
to hold in my dreams.

---

A wind-swept plateau
where the sky looms large, as in
a John Ford western.

---

Rain evaporates,
Autumn leaves will decompose,
Snow melts. Life happens.

---

Dispositions change.
Mindsets frequently evolve.
Never close a door.

---

When I’m all alone,
in my mind and in my heart,
you reverberate.

---

She stirred the stew and
sprinkled with pepper, while she
glanced out the window.

---

Though old of age, he
felt he still had tales to tell,
and trails to wander.

---

That big old elm tree,
it knows my heartaches and has
heard my confessions.

---

When she was away,
he would sit in his room and
listen to sad songs.

---

Young eyes hold magic;
look into them ... you'll see the
world as it could be.

---

Hippie drug slang like
Bogart, roach and Mary Jane …
seem “quaint” now, don't they?

---

An old weathered rope,
hangs ’round a lonely fence-post,
purpose forgotten.

---

Weary troubadours,
guitars slung across their backs,
slouch in waiting rooms  ...

---

tanka haiku:

Ev’ry night he’d dance
through the streets of Paris with
the love of his life.

Ev’ry day he’d go to work
and wait for the sun to set.

---

Wanderlust re-born
when the circus passed through town,
Now he clowns around.

---

double haiku:

When I was young, I
looked in strangers' faces to
find the familiar.

Now that I am old,
I look in strangers' faces
to find the unique.

---

(And finally ... I came across this old one the other day. It still makes me laugh ... )

Tanka Haiku:

Instead of eating
a can of peas, she gobbled
up the canapes.

Now, despite her man's pleas, she
can't fit under canopies.

Comments

Whatever the scene,

nobody likes to get played:

Manipulation.

Fingers on the scale;

Watching as the deal goes down;

People at the door.

The heart is stupid:

Finding all coordinates

through itself alone.

Wonderful, moat!!  I especially like the last one...

Although Love is blind,
the heart can be quite stupid ...
which evens things up.

A good Deli-man

never lets you notice their

finger's on the scale
