KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — Two blasts, at least one of which was set off by a suicide bomber on a motorcycle, killed more than 20 people on Wednesday near a large military installation in southern Afghanistan, according to witnesses and Afghan government officials.
Initial reports said all the victims were Afghan civilians, and officials said later that the target of Wednesday’s attack was a small market and hotel where Afghan security escorts for NATO supply trucks stopped between escort runs. The market and hotel are near Kandahar Airfield, one of the largest coalition bases in Afghanistan. The death toll rose to 23 by midday as bodies were recovered [....]
