NSA spent a lot of taxpayer money developing hacking tools for espionage. Then it lost the tools. They've already done billions in damage around the world, and now they're being used to attack American cities. With @nicoleperlrothhttps://t.co/IrtWipsfUG
Caption: On May 7, city workers in Baltimore had their computers frozen by hackers.
Officials have refused to pay the $100,000 ransom
And Shane's second tweet about the article:
Remarkable that NSA has not been held to public account over this ongoing Shadow Brokers disaster. The agency's position is that it's all too secret to discuss -- which is convenient for avoiding responsibility.
The NSA certainly has some responsibility for creating the hacking tools. But they didn't create the vulnerability. They simply found it and took advantage of it.
And the NSA certainly has some responsibility for losing the tool. But when it was lost they informed Microsoft and Microsoft patched the flaw. People need to download the patch or Microsoft needs to create a better system for fixing their mistakes.Governments, hospitals, and other businesses should have a tech person on staff to keep up with that.
Microsoft, and all the big 5 internet companies, are making billions in profits and they need to create a better product and fix their mistakes.
