The alternative is to keep using the Iraq AUMF until judgement day. If it is to be an issue, better now while the extent of Executive Powers can be discussed.

How bout kick it down the road 2 years?
Watch CPAC 2021 for why I don't particularly want to go all unity and traditional Constitution at this point in time. It took Obama a year of painful coalition building and fighting to beat back ISIS. Trump reversed the effort in on quick backroom deal with Erdogan and Putin, while the Republican Congress (+ NRA annex) entertained Martina Butina for a year or two, a major security infringement. I'll take my chances on Joe for now.
