Scoop: Biden’s team plots TikTok, WhatsApp and expanded social strategy for likely 2024 reelection campaign, getting into volunteers’ phones to make them content producers and sharers. Planning has been going on for months. https://t.co/0qAEJawgfX
Don't look for social media to become less politicized up until the election:
One aim is to organize content-sharing between supporters and their friends on digital platforms, including TikTok and WhatsApp, where political advertising is not allowed.
On both my theme song — which is not the same as a favorite song — is Elvis Costello's version of "What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding."https://t.co/HdVn06dp5m
Pretty common to have FB, IG & Twitr sigs/crossposting - they serve different purposes. You can't really do a Twitter homepage like you can Facebook, and there's no marketplace, well-organized groups, etc. I guess Elmo dreams of going down the tubes like MySpace.
yeah, even in the art world, many people have a pretty clear separation - where the Instagram account is for using images, but if you want to communicate or discuss with words, that's what the Twitter account is for
I enjoy posting wisecracks here. I benefit a little - but only a little - from linking to other work. (The click-through rate is low on Twitter, always has been.) The great benefit is the information flow, the discovery of sources, the opportunity to amplify people on front lines
Yes, like the Ukraine news that sprung up overnight.- Twitter is great for that. Wonder if Musk is against that. He doesn't seem like he's in it for success.
This is the clearest declaration of weakness I’ve ever seen from a major US tech platform, and a transparent declaration of anticompetitive intent that a GC would set themselves on fire to prevent (if somebody had that job at Twitter). https://t.co/FxG0Yus1Hr
and PRESTO! NEVERMIND! IT'S GONE! POOF! A CANDLE IN THE WIND! etc...
The policy that I allegedly retroactively violated by promoting my Instagram and Mastodon account, has now been deleted from Twitter’s website https://t.co/Qeevf2HPJd
Seriously, the naive comments Musk was using in July on "fixing" Twitter was largely naive 1990s babble ignoring lessons learned and increased technical sophistication over 2 decadea. His impulsive firings, whipsaw policy changes, destructive taunting instead of positive cheerleading is just more of the same.
Steve Jobs did some major major shifts when he came back to Apple in the 90s, including pretty severe layoffs (though quite a few of those externals) - but he also upped Apple's marketing game, made it clear how they were focusing on the knitting and not a myriad of side projects, and communicating Apple's values and reason for being in the market, while bringing in his mature NextStep platform as a way for Apple to have a technology base to build on, while cutting back on the clone program that was letting 3rd parties take much of Apple's profits. As babyish and tyrranic as Steve Jobs could be, this was pretty righteous stuff that set the pace for Apple becoming a trillion dollar company. (Tim Cooke is also a huge supply chain expert, which helps Apple squeeze the dimes out of every supplier and logistics decision).
Elon is everything but. His inspiring rally against critics in 2019, beating his quotas against heavy odds, sleeping in his Gigafactory as one of the team, has been replaced by a male Karen Kardashian looking for clicks rather than tech sophistication in an AI age, ironic for a guy who introduced brain probes to manage direct mind communications & reaponse with Neuralink, though perhaps that it's initial release was on pigs should've given us a heads up. Two legs good, 4 legs better - nobody knows you're a pig on the internet (until they do)
Alabama and Utah banned the use of TikTok on state devices, following South Dakota, Texas and Maryland. The moves come weeks after FBI director Christopher Wray warned TikTok is a national security issue. https://t.co/R9VWv4lRO5
Wow.@elonmusk, as a Twitter user I see this as a highly arbitrary decision. You may say: you don't care how I see it. Fair enough. Unfortunately, arbitrary rule affects everyone's personal strategies. If you are subject to it, you can't realistically plan anything long-term https://t.co/tqioaD8djA
Wild. @PaulG got suspended (for *sending folks to his website for a link to his mastadon). This is gonna get really, really interesting. PG is SV royalty. pic.twitter.com/kXTy4V2wIz
We're back to 2015 when ever day was full of "what crazy shit will The Donald say today/this hour", all about him for 5-6 years. And now Elon with $44 billion is playing much the same game. Except he's not taking over the government, so if we weren't on Twitter so much, we could just ignore him. I yeah, I have to unfriend him (tho I don't think I ever see his tweets direct, only through others - almost all my follows are fucked up from their algorithms).
A ban on Chinese-owned TikTok for government devices is in a new spending bill. It will not affect most of the 100 million U.S. users of the app, but it is a major anti-TikTok escalation by the U.S. https://t.co/QVYhGpv7kg

and fwiw, Twitter is banning users cross-linking to their accounts on other social media:

interesting that Jay Rosen is doing a "double dare ya" on that:
with a tweet mentioning his Post and Mastodon addresses as well as referring to the whole "doxxing" issue by mentioning "coordinates"

OIC, Musk wants to get all those kind of people to pay to advertise those links
that's real important to understanding the ramifications
They certainly could be clearer about that in the Twitter rules, though! Very badly written then!

still this question remains:

go vote in Musk's new poll:
edit to add, he followed that up with this tweet:
(Just making it clear: as for myself I am not naive enough to think any such person will be independent from Musk's instructions)

not really as it's only related to use for government jobs
it does however, raise questions about the Biden campaign using it?

this is not a good sign for Twitter's future
he has 1.6 million followers; I see his account is back up but it's looking like he's decided to not use the site
